He smiles. “With you, Boss. I’m training for the Flight Ops IT Control.”
I whistle. “That’s the longest training. I’ll be watching, Miter. If you meet up with Anton, Amal or Akai, let them know. They’ll hook you up with some simulator time.” I check on Freedom and Victory. Falcon is at the bar watching them as Harmony sits.
“Yeah. Akai is cool. I went to town with him and Strickland and he told me about Ops IT. Strickland told me about Security, but I went to school for computer.”
I nod. “IT runs in every department. Security has surveillance that needs people with a good eye for catching movement or anything out of the ordinary. HR is just about all keyboarding. Admin runs in every department from Enforcer to Prospects. They answer to the Officers. Ops needs every IT position, so I don’t want to put you off it, but find the place that would make you happy.”
“Thanks, Boss. Admin and Ops sound good. I’ll look at the job descriptions and see what feels right. I wanted to go into the military, but I had a bout with cancer. Ops sounds like an experience I’d like, but I like what the Enforcers do too.”
Freedom looks around. “Find something that would make you happy and if you don’t like it, you can train for another job, Miter. We’re pretty open. My ol’ lady is looking for me. Find me at the office if you have questions.”
He moves aside. “I will, Boss. Thanks.”
“Sorry, mylo’u alofa. He’s got a good outlook, but is unsure of what job he wants.” I kiss her head.
“I was looking for Seren. Have you seen Cort?”
I swing my head. “No. So this is still girl talk time?”
She pulls and I bend. I get a kiss and a smile. “Yeah, for a while, Harmony is happy dating Scraps and Victory is going to tell her version of Gilligan’s Island again.”
I stand fast. “I’m at the bar with Falcon.”
She laughs and pushes me. I give my hat to the Prospect and he puts it on a shelf for me. With a beer in my hand, I turn and give Falcon a look. “What?”
He’s smiling like something is funny. “The haircut. I can picture Mounty. The barber said he’s going to ban him if he goes in with you again.”
I laugh. “Once the hair starts growing, I’ll leave it for a while. I only got it cut because I had to.”
He nods. “I’m glad you’re okay.”
“You ready to tell me about Juanita?”
He shrugs. “She wanted to stay for a while longer. I couldn’t. She’s thinking of taking a position with the Masons. She was pissed that I wouldn’t. It’s not an offer they extend to women so she was stoked.”
Fuck. “That sucks. Aren’t you a Mason?”
“There are different sects and levels. I’m not interested in hopping around the globe again and all the rules. I pledged, but talked to the Grand Master and removed my name when I got back. The beliefs almost mirror Badass so I figure I’m doing my part.”
I smile. “As President of a Club, you’re doing your part, Brother, but it sucks about Juanita.”
He nods looking at his beer. “Her mom was a firefighter. She tried to pledge so this is big for Juanita as her daughter. Breaking the barrier, she said. It means something to her, just as Badass means something to us. I get it, but it does suck.”
“Let me buy you a beer.”
He laughs. “You’re a good SAA for Cort. I’m glad you stepped up.”
“So am I.”
A commotion has me moving to see what’s going on. “Brother taking an ol’ lady. She does her dance for him.”
I nod and go back to my spot. “I called for Security to watch out. There are a lot of trainees here. One that I know will be leaving.” Freedom is talking and laughing. Victory watches her then smiles and jumps in.
He nods. “This is a good place to find shit like that out. The Prospects take names when someone is more than a dick. It goes to Beacon and now Vick.”
That’s how McCabe had a list of Brothers. “McCabe brought it to me one day.”
“Yeah. He’s good about taking the trash out.”
