“Is Sienna with child?” he asks suddenly.

I lift my gaze to his. “No.”

“No? That’s odd. You’ve been together for months. Your deal with the Lionettis allows you to divorce her if she turns out to be defective. You know that, right? Your deal will still be intact, but you may return her to her father.”

“What the fuck are you talking about?” How does he know the terms of my deal with the Lionettis?

“You need heirs. As soon and as many as possible. I know someone. A good family. They have a daughter. She’s young and pretty too.”

I move across the room so fast that Mauro flinches when I’m face-to-face with him. “Don’t you ever dare say such things again. I won’t let you disrespect my wife. Do you fucking understand?”

He lifts his hands up. “I’m sorry. I understand that you’re fond of her. She’s a pretty little thing. But if she can’t provide you with what you need—”

“It’s not her!” I glare at him.

His brow furrows.

“It’s me.”

“I don’t understand,” he says.

“I had a vasectomy.”

He gapes at me. “Are you out of your mind, son? You need to reverse it!”

“Who do you think you are to tell me what to do? It’s my life. I may be interested in making a business deal with you, but none of that gives you the right to act like you’re my family. I had a father. It’s too late to replace him now, and I don’t want anyone to replace him. I’m not your son. Do you understand?” I stare straight into his eyes.

“All right. I apologize. You’re right. I overstepped.” He bows his head. “But I’m worried about your future. That’s all.”

Not too long ago, he didn’t even know the truth about me, but now he already wants to plan out my whole life?

What the fuck?

I step away from him and look at the contract again. Doing business with him might be a mistake.

“I’ll take a look at the contract and let you know,” I say, and head for the door.

I need to think about how I want this to go.
