“I saw something…”

My heart went into my throat. We’d both seen something terrible before, a thing we’d labeledDeath. The writhing mass of meshed together souls quickly become one of the most horrifying thing I could imagine. I’d seen it a couple times in my life, and none of them had ever ended in good things.

“Not that,” Micah said. “It wasn’t that.”

“What?” Lukas demanded.

But we hadn’t shared that with anyone but each other. Some horrors really weren’t meant to be shared.

“Nothing,” I said. “I saw nothing. The room just went dark.”

The new angle only gave it a partial view of Micah and I, now huddled in the corner. Had we knocked the camera over?

Something black and formless crawled across the room from the doorway. If we hadn’t been looking for it, the movement, subtle as it was, would have been impossible to see.

“Is this edited?” I asked, feeling like it was more outlined than the low light of the room would have allowed.

“Brightened a bit, yeah. One of the guys on my team is pretty into tech,” Lukas said. “They caught it on the review after about the fifteenth watch. Had to brighten it for the rest of us to see it.”

The dark mass crawled toward me, like ooze or some demon wanting to devour me, though the camera feed wasn’t angled right to tell if it reached me. However…

A chill went up my spine. I’d thought it had been the bear that had started speaking, screaming that horrible “Get out!” at us when it had fallen out of the chair. My memory seemed to attach to the tone of it more than anything else. But it hadn’t been the bear screaming those words, it had been me.
