CHAPTER FIFTY

Tucker

“Give me the fucking drugs,” Sienna growls when she finally comes down from yet another contraction.

We weren’t wrong. She’s in labor. They finally have her checked in and hooked up to the monitors. She’s had four contractions since we’ve been in the room, and they’re only getting stronger each time.

The gray-haired nurse chuckles. “I will get them up here as fast as I can, hun.” She double-checks Sienna’s IV. “Good thing you have a whole group of guys here to help you through it until then.”

“They’re the reason this is happening. I don’t really like any of them right now.” Sienna groans dramatically, letting her head fall back against the pillow.

Labor is turning her into a bit of a wild animal. I’m half enthralled and half terrified.

“Well, anger can help get you through it, too.” The nurse laughs. “I’m going to go call anesthesiology right now.”

She gives all of us guys an amused look before walking into the hallway. We all stand there, not sure what the best course of action is at this point.

Warren finally steps forward. “Do you need anything, sweetheart?”

“An epidural,” she growls.

I honestly don’t know how he holds it together. I can barely keep from laughing, and I’m not the one she’s glaring at.

“It shouldn’t take too long.” He steps forward, gently grabbing her hand. “And if it does, I’ll go raise hell until someone takes care of you.”

A small smile spreads across her face. Finally. I don’t even care that I’m not the one who drew it out of her.

“We all will,” Grayson adds from beside me.

She turns, facing us. Her face softens even further. “I know you will.”

Her red curls are splayed around her peaceful face. She finally got her epidural about an hour ago, and she’s able to rest now. As soon as she wasn’t in pain, she fell asleep right away.

The doctor said she still has a way to go, so it’s good for her to get some rest now while she can.

The last few hours have felt like such a rush, so now sitting here waiting feels strange. I have that nagging feeling that I should be doing something when I know there isn’t anything to be done at the moment.

A different nurse walks into the room.

“Hi,” she whispers, seeing Sienna sleeping. “I don’t want to wake Mama up. I just need to check a few things. So, which one of you is the dad?” she asks, checking the machine monitoring Sienna’s contractions.

I look at Warren, then Grayson.

“We all are,” Grayson says.

“Lucky lady,” the nurse replies.

I’ve honestly been shocked at how open and accepting everyone at the hospital has been to our situation.

I don’t give a rat’s ass what anyone else thinks. Our relationship works for us, and that’s all that matters to me.

I just didn’t want any part of this to be harder than necessary for Sienna because people couldn’t keep their own small-minded judgments to themselves.

That hasn’t been the case, though. Other than our horrible mayor, the whole town of Aspen Springs has been wonderful. No one has really acted like it’s a big deal at all.

I don’t know if it’s because Hadley and her guys helped pave the way for our type of relationship, or if it’s just a testament to how wonderful most of the people in town are.

My phone vibrates in my lap.

Mom How are you doing?

Of course, my mom’s asking about me. I might be having a baby today, but as she always tells me, I’m still her kid.

Me Nervous but I’m good. Glad she isn’t hurting anymore.

Mom Sending you a big hug. I’m proud of you.

She can’t be here right now because of work, but she’s going to come visit in a few weeks once everything settles a little bit. She met Sienna over FaceTime a few weeks ago, and the two of them instantly hit it off.

Me Thanks, love you.

Mom Love you too.

“Is that your mom?” Warren asks from beside me on the slightly uncomfortable couch on the side of the room.

I look up, realizing the nurse isn’t in the room anymore. “Yeah, she was just checking on me.”

He laughs quietly. “My mom’s been blowing up my phone. I keep reminding her this isn’t her first grandkid. She should know it doesn’t happen right away.”

“I guess we should be grateful all of our parents have been so supportive,” I say. I bring my hand to my mouth, stifling a chuckle. “Even if they are a little overbearing at times.”

“Yeah,” he says, attempting to quiet his own laugh. Grayson laughs quietly from where he’s leaning against the wall. “Our girl is going to have more grandparents than she can keep track of.”

“More parents, too,” I add, laughing to myself. “She’s never going to be able to get away with anything.”

“I’m sure she’ll figure out a way.” Sienna’s voice draws all our gazes over to her.

We all walk over to her bed. “Sorry if we woke you up,” I say.

She shakes her head. “Waking up to the three of you talking about our daughter is pretty perfect,” she says, smiling.

Grayson runs his hand down the side of her face. “How are you feeling?”

“Better now.” She sighs and kisses his palm.

The door opens slowly. Sienna’s face lights up.

“Mom,” she says on an exhale.

Warren and I step to the side, giving Ellen room to get to Sienna. She pats Warren and I on the shoulder before leaning down to give her daughter a hug.

“We’re all going to go get some coffee,” Grayson says. He leans down, giving Sienna a kiss on the cheek. “We’ll be back soon, love.”
