CHAPTER THIRTY
Grayson
My hands grip the island as Warren trails into the kitchen after Tucker. It’s silent for several minutes while we all process what the hell just happened.
Sienna’s pregnant.
“Well, fuck,” Tucker finally says, running his hands through his messy blond hair. He doesn’t look angry, just overwhelmed. “What are we going to do?”
“Be there for her every step of the way,” Warren says before I get a chance.
I nod in agreement.
Tucker starts pacing back and forth along the side of the room. “Yeah, just be there for her. I can do this. It’s going to be okay.”
Obviously, he’s freaking out a little bit. At least he held it together, for the most part, in front of her.
His body snaps toward Warren. “What’s it like having a kid?”
“Hard,” Warren says simply.
Great. That’s really going to help the situation.
“But it’s the best thing to ever happen to me. He’s the best thing in my life,” Warren adds.
Tucker nods. “So, it’s worth it, all of it. The diapers and sleepless nights.”
Warren gets a smile on his face that we don’t get to see very often. My money’s on him remembering something from when Jackson was a baby.
“Yeah, it’s absolutely worth it.”
Tucker keeps nodding. “Did you want to have more kids?”
Warren shrugs. “If the situation was right, yes.”
Tucker turns to look at me. “Have you always wanted to be a dad?”
“Yes,” I say without hesitation.
Being a dad has always been a part of my future that I’ve seen very clearly. It’s been something I’ve hoped for as fiercely as a woman at my side to share my life with.
“What about you?” Warren asks him.
Tucker sighs. His shoulders slump. “I can honestly say I’ve never really thought about it. It’s not that I’m against the idea. It’s just a lot to take in.”
“If you’re just going to bail on her, you might as well do it now rather than later,” Warren says in an almost growl.
Tucker shakes his head. “No. Hell, no.” His voice gets more adamant the more he speaks. “I could never do that to her or the baby.”
He looks hurt by the mere thought.
“So, then it’s safe to say we’re all in this for as long as she wants us to be,” I say.
They both nod.
“Maybe it’s for the best that we’re stopping everything else,” Tucker says. “It was getting messy.”
I quirk a brow. “And this isn’t messy?”
Tucker shrugs. “It is, but there’s a difference between a messy friendship and a messy romantic relationship, if that’s even what you want to call it. I don’t know.”
Damn. He’s all over the place right now.
I can wholeheartedly say I don’t agree with him. If being Sienna’s friend through this pregnancy is what she wants, then that’s exactly what I’ll do.
I can’t ignore the voice screaming inside of me saying this is so close to everything I’ve ever wanted but yet so far away.
