Grant
M att pulled me aside to try and get some space. I want to know if Lana is okay, but all I can see is her ex’s grimy lips on hers. I should’ve beat him to a pulp.
Calming me down isn’t going well. My dad chooses this moment to come over and talk to me.
“Ah. There you are, Grant. What were you thinking making a scene at a public event?”
“You need to get out of my face before I punch yours,” I threaten through gritted teeth.
Matt steps between us, crossing his arms in front of his chest, looking like a rooster about to announce it’s time to wake up. I’d normally laugh at the sight, but my mood is beyond sour.
“Matt, why don’t you go find your wife,” I tell him, staring daggers at my father.
“I can stay. Scarlett is with the girls. She’s okay.”
“I’m fine, Matt.”
He walks away, but his footsteps stop nearby. He’s the best friend I could ever ask for. I’m going to have to commission a statue for him or some shit.
“Grant. What are you doing with this Lana Love? You can’t be so serious as to almost start a fight at your business partner’s wedding. The story is trash. If the press gets ahold of this—”
I cut him off before he can finish his sentence. “Fuck the press. Fuck your perfect image.” Then I point at him. “Don’t you dare assess my girlfriend right now. I don’t give a fuck about whatever standards you think you have to have. It’s bullshit. ”
“If it’s such bullshit then why are you so upset?”
I pause, unsure.
“You have the same standards I taught you. Get your head on straight. Your mother would never pull something like that.”
“That’s because you’ve made her into a shell of the person she used to be.” I get up to get away from him. “That’s on you. I would never do that to someone I love.”
I walk away, hating the scene of Lana and her ex running through my head.
“You’d do it to if you were in the position I am. Actions show a lot, and your girlfriend kissing another guy isn’t looking like a promising image.”
I need a drink. I start walking away with my father’s warning ringing through my head, turning my stomach. My girlfriend was just kissing someone else. Someone she has been stuck on for a long time. I may have already lost her.
