I ’m on a run as the sun comes up the next morning. I have to meet Scarlett for wedding festivities, which means I had to be up early for this workout. I’m running on the beach with Queenie, with the sand between my toes as the sun is rising. The fresh air surrounding me as I hit step after step.
All I can think is I have a boyfriend! I have a boyfriend!
I have a boyfriend! Last night was perfect.
I didn’t want Grant to deny my dreams of being a chef like Ryan did, so I didn’t tell him what I really want to do with my life.
I’ll tell him soon. As long as Grant and I stay together, he’ll find out eventually.
I still have some hesitation on letting him in.
He usually makes me tell him, but I was lucky to have distracted him last night. I still need more time.
Once I reach the beach house after running eleven miles, Grant is gone. The groomsmen were supposed to get together for their own festivities. Grant mentioned golf and day drinking.
I’m meeting up with the girls, plus Jason, for Scarlett’s last dress fitting, nails, and massages. I’m a little sad I won’t be able to see Grant until later, but I’ll just have to wait.

I walk into the dress store, looking around for my friends. Scarlett made sure she had the first appointment of the day. The girl loves planning. I’d have a headache every day of my life if I was her. I see Paige, Danielle—Matt’s sister—and Jason waiting on a couch and I go over to them.
“Hey, guys!”
“Hi, babe!” Paige and Jason say together. Danielle gives a small wave.
Then Scarlett walks out wearing a white, silk dress with a low back and a tiny bit of lace detail on the hem and neckline. It’s simple but elegant.
“You look beautiful, Scarlett!” I say first, tears in my eyes.
“Matt is going to get a boner in front of everyone, you look so sexy!” Paige exclaims.
“Uh-hmmm,” Jason agrees.
“I can’t believe I’m getting married tomorrow you guys. Thank God you’re here!” Scarlett is wringing her hands together in front of her stomach, but she looks more excited than nervous.
“It’s the perfect match, Scar.” I assure her.
She smiles. The tailors come in to make their final adjustments and we’re off to have a spa day. All of us choose a chair to get a pedicure.
“It’d be cool to have nail technicians available at the gym, guys,” Paige states.
“Paige, no work talk. I can’t even begin to think about work right now,” Scarlett argues.
“Fine,” she huffs. “Lana, I think you have some news for us.”
“What?” I’m confused.
“Someone is hiding something. I can smell it. What is it?” Paige interrogates.
“You can smell something? You sure it’s not your feet?” I ask.
“Lana!”
“I do have something to tell you guys...I am in a committed relationship with,” I pause for effect, “a man bun.”
“You’re in a relationship with Grant? I knew he was sooo into you! I knew you were into him!” Scarlett screams across the room, pointing her finger at me.
“I’m so glad you got off the Ryan train finally! You are off the Ryan train, right?” Paige asks, leaning forward in her chair towards me.
“Why would she be on the Ryan train?” Scarlett interrupts.
“He reached out,” Paige explains.
“What the hell, Lana!” Scarlett shouts. “I know I’ve been occupied, but why wouldn’t you tell me something important like that? ”
“It’s not a big deal. I ignored him.” I shrug. “As for Grant, I’ve liked him for years, I just didn’t know if he’d feel the same for me. I didn’t want to get my hopes up.”
“Like he could resist you. Not a chance!” Paige announces.
My cheeks heat up. I don’t know why we’re talking about me when it’s Scarlett’s big day tomorrow. Luckily, Jason pipes in, changing the subject.
“I met someone last night.” He winks at me, saying “I got you, girl” with his eyes. I tune out the gossip. All I can think about is Grant’s lips on me and seeing him again as soon as possible.
My phone lights up with an unknown number calling towards the middle of the pedicure. It makes me think Ryan is trying to get a hold of me. Good thing we aren’t in town.
