I ’m waiting at the airport. Sure, Andrew could have flown with her and drove her to my place, but I wanted to be the one who picked her up.

I want the two of us together the entire weekend without any witnesses to all the dirty things I want to say and do to her.

She comes down the steps, unsure and looking back at the pilot, as if she’ll know where Lana should go.

It’s cute, but I also want her to have more faith in me.

I wouldn’t leave her hanging somewhere she’s never been.

Looks like we still have some trust issues to work out.

I’m hoping this weekend with her will show her how committed I am.

I’d ask her to move here forever, but I think I’d scare her.

We haven’t been dating long, even though we’ve known each other since I was in high school.

I personally feel like we could skip a few steps, but I understand her need to take things slow.

The moment she realizes I’m here waiting for her, her face lights up and the dimple I love appears. She rushes down and comes over to me.

I grab her and pick her up so her feet are dangling. “Hey, baby girl. You made it!” I give her a kiss. I would spin her around and make this super corny, but she’s holding Queenie’s leash in her hands. It wouldn’t work.

I place her back down on the ground and bend down to pet Queenie behind the ears—her favorite spot. Then I take Lana’s hand to lead her to the car. “You hungry?”

“Starving!”

“There’s a cool lunch place with the best bread. We can eat on the patio with Queenie. Sound good?”

She smiles. “Don’t you have work?”

“I’ll take you to eat and then I’ll have to go to the office for a bit. You can get settled at my place, though. I’ll bring something home to eat later.”

“You sure? We can just grab something to go right now if you need to get back.”

“Absolutely not. I know I’m leaving you for a little bit, but I don’t want you to be alone your first hour in Texas. You’ve never been, right?”

“No, not to Texas. Scarlett said it’s hotter than Hell. I think it’s nice.”

“You made it at the perfect time of year. We’ve got some cool things going on in Spring. You have a busy weekend ahead of you after I get done with work.”

“You consider yourself a Texan?”

I smirk. “Well, no, but I do love it here.”

“I can see why.” She says it quietly, but it’s everything I’ve ever wanted to hear. I hope this trip will make her see I want her here with me always.
