Dagur does a background check on Peter, as Finn asks him to do, but to no avail. Finn is nevertheless grateful for his brother’s unwavering support. After all, such a stunt could cost him his job.
The jingling of keys and the noise of the closing door alerts him to Jamie’s return. It’s late. and Finn would have preferred to take Jamie to bed after a long day. But they need to talk first.
“Hey!” Jamie enters the living room, his hair tousled, and he brushes off his coat. He is easily the prettiest thing Finn has ever seen. “How was your day?”
Finn sighs. “Eventful.”
Jamie smiles at him, but his features take on a worried expression as he looks at Finn. “Did something happen? Are you okay?”
“I’m fine. Come sit with me. We have something to talk about.”
Jamie looks even more worried as he sinks down on the couch next to Finn.
“I met with Dagur at Hrafna’s lodge today. We found the stalker’s camp.”
Jamie turns pale. “You got your brother involved?” he hisses. “But I told you, I don’t want the police!”
Finn puts a placating hand on Jamie’s thigh. To his relief, Jamie allows the touch.
“He’s my brother, Jamie. I told you I would talk to him.”
“Unbelievable! You have no idea what it means to involve the police!”
“We found a picture of you. The stalker must have hidden it.”
“What?” Jamie’s eyes go wide. Finn can sense that he’s afraid, although he’s quick to cover his reaction.
“Dagur is analyzing for fingerprints. Can’t you see that we have to do something? This person is dangerous,” Finn says.
“That isn’t your place to decide! I’m dealing with this my way. I don’t need your help.”
Finn caresses soothing patterns over Jamie’s thigh. How can he make him see that he doesn’t have to do this alone?
“I know that you can manage on your own,” he relents. “But you don’t have to. And you have to allow me to be concerned for you.”
Jamie looks at him with a stormy expression, probably unsure if he should fight some more or give in.
“I don’t want an investigation, Finn. I’m serious.”
“It’s just my brother and me. I promise you Dagur would rather risk his job than do anything that would harm you. And the trail has probably run cold by now, anyway.”
Jamie looks at him dubiously. “No policeman would risk his job for a stranger.”
“Not for a stranger, but for his brother.”
Jamie drops his gaze, all the fight leaving him. “Fine. Do what you must. But I won’t allow the movie to be hampered by whatever you or your brother do.”
Finn kisses him, relief flooding through his body.
“It won’t compromise the shoot,” he promises.
Jamie snuggles up to his side. Finn suspects that despite his bold claims to be able to handle the stalker on his own, Jamie appreciates not being left to fend on his own. He just won’t admit it, the proud git.
“There is something else we need to talk about.”
Jamie groans. “What have you been doing? Can you really not be left alone for a day?”
Finn feels a sheepish grin creep onto his face. “It’s about Bev…”
