Page 88 of Merciless Obsession
“Let’s go outside! I want to do the haunted house,” Inaya said once she was back.
“Who was that?” I wiped the sweat beading on my forehead and followed her through the dining room.
“A guy I know from the casino. I told him I would save him a dance when he learned I was coming.”
We weaved in and out of people in order to get to the back sliding door that led outside.
The backyard was just as packed as the inside. There were screams and laughs in the distance where everything was. It was cold out and a shiver passed through me.
“I should have worn pants,” I groaned.
“You just need more liquor in you, let’s go to the bar first!” Inaya grabbed my hand and dragged me to the bar. She had tossed her blunt when we got outside.
Inaya handed me another flute while she went to the bar to order something. I looked around the pool, finally laying eyes on Elianna. She was with a group of girls dressed as bunny rabbits. Her outfit barely covered anything and left very little to the imagination. Her chocolate skin glowed and shimmered under the lights from whatever was on her skin.
“C’mon.” Inaya started for where the trails were. I downed the rest of my drink and followed her.
My lips were getting dry. I dug into my fanny pack to get my lip gloss when I saw I had a notification on my phone. I pulled it out and checked the screen. It was a text. I frowned and opened it.
Stalker
Come to the house of mirrors, alone.
My head popped up when Inaya yelled out.
“Fuck!” Inaya yelled and jumped back when a clown jumped out with a boombox of someone laughing hysterically. “I hate clowns.” The clown looked at us with a creepy grin, tilting its head to the side.
A couple more yells sounded from behind us and in front of us. I had to give it to the Kents, they knew how to throw a party.
My phone vibrated again. I checked the screen.
Tick tock.
Lifting my head I looked around, noticing the arrows at the three openings. My teeth scraped over my bottom lip. My skin prickled and it wasn’t from the cold.
“The haunted house is this way.” She pointed forward.
It didn’t make sense that he knew I was here or that he was demanding to meet me alone. There was no telling what he wanted or had planned. My heartrate picked up and my stomach quivered.
“Go ahead. I’ll catch up.” I went to go left but Inaya grabbed me.
“Where are you going?”
“The mirrors.”
She frowned and narrowed her eyes. “Okay, let’s go.”
I shook my head. “No.” Inaya looked confused now. “Go ahead to the haunted house. I’ll meet up with you in a few.”
“What’s going on?”
My phone vibrated again. “I just need to check something.”
Inaya shifted her eyes to the sign that directed to the mirrors. A group of people came stumbling toward us, going in the direction of the maze.
“You’re sure you’re okay?”
“Yeah.”
