Page 169 of Merciless Obsession
Both cops’ houses had come up empty for clues. Tommy’s apartment was a dump and Douglas’s looked like he had just moved in. There was no connection to them, the house they found me in, or the missing girls.
That signature grin split on his face. He reached for where my left hand rested on my pillow and lifted it, kissing the ring.
“This looks beautiful on your hand. Never take it off.”
Twisting my face in confusion, I shifted my attention to my hand.
“How’s your incision?” Ezra used his free hand to lift my shirt.
“Fine, the antibiotics are working.” My incision ended up getting infected just like Lucas predicted. It was painful and uncomfortable at first but thankfully the medicine set in quickly.
The stitches were still in, my foot was still casted, and the wound on my lip was just about healed. The bruisingwas clearing up and my face was almost back to its normal complexion.
Ezra kissed my ring finger again. His eyes sparked with fire as he stared at it.
“I want to take a trip,” he revealed.
“A trip?”
Nodding, he stroked the top of my hand. “To celebrate my win. Just me and you.”
The jury came to a verdict for Felix’s case less than twelve hours after they were sent back. Ezra said that was a win for him since sometimes those kinds of cases could take a while to close. His client was found not guilty on all charges besides a minor one but Ezra expected probation for it.
“What about the governor’s son? You still have that case.”
“We can go for a weekend. I’ll be back by my next date.”
Scraping my bottom lip with my teeth, I thought about it. With all I’d been through, a trip sounded nice.
“Okay. But where?”
He grinned. “You let me worry about that.” He closed his laptop. “We still have a couple hours until your appointment with your ortho.” Ezra moved the laptop to the side table and tossed the covers back.
Today I was getting a new cast and also getting the healing progress of my foot and ankle examined. I wish we could do away with the cast completely but that didn’t seem to be in the cards for me anytime soon.
Ezra climbed over me and hovered, a predatory look displayed in his eyes.
“Why don’t we have some fun before we go?” His voice was now husky and low. Between my legs throbbed. We hadn’t had sex since my accident. Outside of head and using our hands, we’d been on a dry streak.
“Yes,” I breathed with no hesitation.
I was working on not being so wired. It wasn’t easy releasing control and not worrying about everything, but Ezra had shown me that putting my faith in him was well worth it.

Another five days passed since the night Ezra went full executioner in the barn, and here we were, back, but inside the farmhouse. Nazai was going over the plan for the girl’s pick up, which was happening in a week.
It was still surreal to me that I was sitting here with the Tavarez family. The past couple of months seemed to have flown by, and for the first time, I felt like a part of a team. Everyone was here, besides Lucas, who was running behind. The whole time I was locked in the house under Ezra’s watchful eye, I was glued to my computer, updating my evidence board, and trying to find the missing pieces of the puzzle.
“Ziora, you mentioned you think you found something,” Nazai called out, staring at me.
I nodded. “Yes.” I placed a file on the table and slid it toward him.
“Something kept bugging me and I couldn’t figure out what it was, but I finally found it.” Nazai reached for the folder and opened it, pulling out the contents inside.
“What is this?”
“A marriage license between Ms. Rubin and Chief Bolden.”
