JOSKA
present day
I had done many stupid things in my life, but nothing compared to the way I treated my brother and his family two years ago. It was just once that I had disappointed him, and it took me a while to understand why I even got to the point of letting him down.
It hadn’t been my intention, and I realized months after that I had things to handle. Things I needed to change about myself to never hurt anyone like that ever again.
It was stupid of me to think that it was a good idea to go behind my brother’s back and lie to him. When I met them in the church that day, I knew what they were there for. They wanted to introduce Sinclair to me. My brother, Tabor, had been in a relationship with her, and added to that, his three best friends were also part of their family.
I had seen many kinds of relationships before, but never one where four huge men shared one tiny woman. Sin was beautiful, and clearly, she knew how to handle the four of them. She had them wrapped around her little finger, and they’d do anything for her.
That day, they invited me to watch them have sex.
I was a watcher.
A voyeur.
I got the most pleasure out of watching people have sex, but that night, I had made a mistake that would cost me the trust of my own brother.
I wasn’t thinking. I was in such a rush that I had ignored boundaries. I hadn’t just watched them fuck, but I had filmed them with my phone.
It was never my intention to post the video anywhere on the internet. All I wanted was to rewatch it later and pleasure myself while doing so. But it never came to that because, clearly, my brother must’ve realized what I had done, and he came to make me delete the video.
I earned a hard fist to my face that day, and the pain I felt for the next couple of days kept reminding me to never do anything so stupid ever again.
I had learned my lesson, and luckily, the guys and mostly Sinclair had forgiven me.
I couldn’t have lived with myself knowing people hated me, and especially my brother was someone I never wanted to disappoint. Still, I felt bad, thinking that maybe they just forgave me to feel better themselves, but I was proven wrong when I got an invitation to their baby girl’s second birthday.
Of course, I accepted the invitation, and then yesterday, I had gone on a mission to find the perfect gift for their daughter.
That kid probably already had everything she needed, since her four fathers were wealthy, hard-working men, and so was her mother. Still, I hoped the gift I was brining would make them all smile.
The celebration took place at Ford’s house, so I drove halfway up the mountain to get to it this evening. When I parked my car in the driveway, I saw Tabor already waiting for me by the front door.
He was standing there with his hands pushed into his pants pockets, and he was watching me closely as I got out of the car, with his usual deep crease between his brows.
He didn’t look happy to see me, but I knew he was. That’s just how he looked at people.
Other than Sinclair and his daughter. He’d never look at them with that grumpy expression.
“Hey,” I greeted. After grabbing the wrapped present from the backseat, I walked up to him after shutting the car door. When I reached him, I held my hand to him while holding the present under my left arm.
“How’re you doing, kid?” he asked, shaking my hand.
He had never gotten over calling me kid, even now as adults. He was almost ten years older than me, but he still saw me as his baby brother.
“Good. Thanks for having me. I brought a gift for Luca. How’s the little one doing?”
I handed him the present and he inspected it carefully, not seeing much as it was wrapped in wrapping paper.
“She’s doing great. Just got over a cold, but she’s all better now. What’s in here?” he then asked, still taking in the present.
“A balance bike.”
His eyes met mine, and he raised a brow. He didn’t look too pleased at first, what I had imagined when I bought the bike. He wouldn’t want his daughter to do anything dangerous, but I figured even he would have to let his little girl be a kid.
“There’s also a helmet in there. For safety,” I explained.
“Right. Thanks.”
He wouldn’t show it, but I knew he was grateful. He was never good at these kinds of things, so I didn’t take it personally.
“Come in.”
I followed him inside, and it quickly got loud when we got closer to the other guests. I didn’t expect much from tonight but it seemed as if Sinclair had invited other parents with their children to celebrate Luca’s birthday.
“Do I know anyone?” I asked Tabor, wanting to prevent awkward encounters with people I might have met before, but forgot about.
“Other than the guys and Sin, probably not.”
Good. That meant that as the brother of the probable father of the birthday girl, I wouldn’t be too interesting to talk to. Which was fine with me.
“Joska, hi!” Sinclair walked over to me with a big smile on her lips, and she hugged me, being as welcome as ever. “It’s so good to see you again. How have you been?”
I smiled at her and squeezed her hip before pulling away my hands to not anger the guys. I knew they were watching me. “Good, thank you. You look beautiful. Motherhood suits you,” I complimented.
“Aw, you’re so sweet. I’ve never been happier.”
“Joska got Luca a present,” Tabor told her, showing her the present in his arm.
“Oh, you shouldn’t have! What is it?”
“A balance bike. And helmet.”
“No way, that’s awesome. Luca will love that. She keeps running around like crazy, so a balance bike might just be perfect for her. Thank you, Joska.”
“You’re welcome. Where’s the birthday girl?”
“She’s over there with Link.” She pointed toward the open kitchen, and I caught a glimpse of Link with Luca on his arm, talking to other guests.
“I’ll go say hello.”
“Okay. Oh, by the way, there’s someone I want you to meet later.”
“Me?”
“Yes, you. Whenever you’re done saying hello to everyone, come back to me.”
I pursed my lips and nodded, then watched her leave before turning my attention to Tabor. “Do you know about that?”
“Yes.”
“And who does she want me to meet?”
“You’ll see.”
Sighing, and decided not to argue. He wouldn’t tell me anyway, so I simply let it go. “All right. I’ll go say hello to the others.”
I went over to the kitchen where I first said hello to Ford and Archer, and after that, I went over to Link. He turned when he saw me, and he smiled, telling Luca to wave at me.
“Hey, sweet girl. Happy birthday,” I said, smiling at her as she reached out her little hand to me. I let her hold my fingers while I caressed the back of her hand.
“Thank you,” Link said for her. He looked at me with a tight smile. He looked tired, but that wasn’t surprising. He worked a lot, just like the others. “How are things, Joska?”
“Pretty good. Still got the same job, and I’m still happy with it.”
“That’s good to hear. Any news then? Got a girlfriend?”
I chuckled. “No, I don’t. Why are you asking?”
“Because I figured that would be good to know before Sin introduces you to her friend.”
Ah, so that’s who she wanted me to meet.
“Who is it?” I asked, looking around to try and find someone who looked single. Maybe it was a single mother. Not really who I’d go for, but who knows?
Hell, I wasn’t even looking for a girlfriend, but I was open to whatever, or, whoever came my way.
“I can’t see her right now, but she’s really nice. You’ll definitely get along,” Link assured.
I didn’t doubt that. I got along with most women.
Also, this didn’t have to end in going on a date with whoever Sin’s friend was, so I wasn’t going to get my hopes up.
Or anyone’s, for that matter.
