Page 98 of Lumi
“Ye heard her. Lumi made her choice, and she chose me.”
“I didn’t know ye were in the game. Thought ye said she was too young for ye and not yer taste.”
Damian raised an eyebrow. “I’ve said a lot of stupid things. But now I’m telling ye that the game is over. I won!” While talking, Damian intertwined our fingers, lifted our cuffed hands and pulled me under his arm so that his arm was around my shoulder.
Logan’s jaw tightened. “So, it’s like that. Fine.” Leaning closer to me, he whispered in my ear. “Keep my number. We both know you’ll get tired of O’Rogue soon enough.”
“What did ye say?” Damian pushed out his chest and took a step closer to Logan.
“Nothing, it was nothing.” I placed a hand on Damian’s chest to calm him down.
“Did that langer just tell ye to keep his number?” Damian’s voice rose in volume, and his nostrils expanded.
Logan rolled his eyes and muttered low, “Fucking gowl.”
Before Damian could escalate the situation, I stepped closer to him. “All right, enough with the insults between you two.”
Damian sucked in a deep breath and stared over my head at Logan. “Why don’t ye try to send her one more picture of yer Mickey and see what happens?”
“Awk, I see. Ye were the one who responded. I figured that much.” Logan shrugged and turned to move away.
“Did ye see the way he looked at ye?” Damian muttered low. “He wants ye, Lumi.”
Kit had finally secured herself a pint of beer and had just chucked down a large mouthful when she spoke. “Why wouldn’t he want her? Lumi is bonny and smart.”
“Thank you.” I touched her shoulder.
“If I looked like ye, I’d have a whole bloody harem of men worshipping me.”
“Sounds horrible. Didn’t you see the testosterone between Logan and Damian? To have several lovers at once would be a mess of fights and peacocking.”
“Not if they’ve agreed to it. I’ve read a few of those reverse harem books. In the last one, it was seven brothers who shared a wife. Can you imagine how much kissing and lovemaking ye’d have? One between yer leg, one…”
“We get the picture.” Damian frowned. “I don’t need to hear about my sister’s sexual fantasies.”
“Don’t be such a prude.” Kit took another swig of her beer.
“How about we find you a man tonight?” I snaked my arm under Kit’s elbow. “Point to any man you fancy in this room, and I’ll help you get him.”
Kit laughed. “How, by leaving the pub? As long as ye’re standing next to me, no man will know I exist.”
“That’s not true. You’re funny, brave, and incredibly kind.”
“I am! But those things don’t show on the outside. Men are visual by nature. They love beauty.”
“You’re beautiful, Kit.”
Kit raised a hand and caressed my face. “That’s sweet of ye to say. But think about it. Damian always called ye princess because ye look like Jasmine from theAladdinmovie. I don’t exactly fit into the princess category.”
“That’s not true. What about that red-haired Scottish princess fromBrave?”
“Awk, ye mean Merida.” Kit gave me a sad smile. “Ye’re right. Disney did create a princess like me. She was brave and strong and could also do everything better than her ugly, useless suitors. Who did she marry again?”
I thought about it. “I can’t remember.”
“That’s because Merida never found love, Lumi.”
“But…” I bit my lip. “That movie only showed a small part of her story. I’m sure if they made a follow-up, she would find love.”
