“You’re right.”
I held my breath. This conversation could go two ways. Either she meant that I was right that we had no business having unprotected sex, and we should calm things down, or…
I didn’t have time to finish my thought before, Lumi declared, “I do want the whole package.”
Swallowing hard, I waited for her to continue.
She blinked her pretty eyes. “Say something.”
“I’m waiting for the ‘but.’”
“There’s no but. I want the whole package, full stop.”
I squeezed her hand and pulled it to my lips to kiss it. “You had me worried for a second.”
“It’s a big step for me, Damian. I’ve never lived with anyone, and I’m used to a lot of alone time.”
“You’ll still have alone time. Just because we live together doesn’t mean we have to do everything together.”
“No, but I don’t want that sort of parallel life that you had with Siobhan either.”
I nibbled on Lumi’s finger and gave her an amorous smile. “That will never happen.”
“I’m not an easy person to live with.”
I smiled. “I was tied to ye for a week. I know more about ye than anyone in the world.”
Her finger slid down along my jawline. “And still, you want to live with me and have a family with me?”
“A hundred percent.”
She watched the way I played with her hand, and I guessed at what might be on her mind. “River pulled me aside today to talk to me.”
“What about?”
“She told me that if we marry, I should agree to a prenup.”
Irritation flashed over Lumi’s face. “River means well, but it’s none of her business.”
“Maybe not, but I think she has a point.”
Lumi sighed. “I don’t want money ever to be an issue between us. I’ve had too many men intimidated by my success and that’s one of the things I love about you. You don’t love me more or less because of money.”
I kissed her hand again. “I was thinkin’ that prenup would be for my sake, not yers.”
“What do you mean?”
“I have some real valuables that I want to keep. My framed U2 poster and signed Bon Jovi CD, for instance.”
Lumi laughed, and I cracked into a wide grin too.
“I’m dead serious. I was lucky Siobhan didn’t insist on getting those things, but I can’t take that risk again. How about we sign papers that formalize that whatever we brought into the relationship is ours in case we ever break up?”
Lumi shrugged. “It makes no difference to me since I don’t plan for us to ever separate.”
“Good, then I’ll ask Charles to draw up a paper to sign. He’s the only friend I have who’s a lawyer.”
Lumi let her finger slide down along my jawline again. “You have no idea how weird and wonderful it is that I can reach out and touch you like this. For us to talk about long-term plans and to laugh with you in the middle of the night.”
