“What’s the difference?”

Closing her eyes, Lumi spoke in a sleepy voice. “The difference is that it’s not something you do per se. It’s who you are. I like being close to you because I trust you, Damian.”

“You should.” I kissed her forehead. “I would take a bullet for you.”

“You already did.”

“Best decision of my life, and now I’m reaping the reward.” I tightened my hold on her. “I love ye so much, Lumi Robertson, and I can’t wait for you to be my wife.”

Our breathing was getting heavier when suddenly Lumi whispered, “I want to keep the Robertson name.”

“Why? O’Rourke is a great name.”

“I could be Lumi O’Rourke Robertson then.”

“Or Lumi Robertson O’Rourke.”

“We’ll figure it out.”

“Sleep now, my princess. We have time to talk it all through. Tell your brain to rest now.”

“It never does.”

My eyes were closed, my breathing deep, and my heart full. Mentally I ran over a checklist. The main entrance was locked, I was closest to the door, I had the woman I loved in my arms, and we were safe.

At that moment, I felt like the luckiest man, and then my thoughts went to Nathan, wondering if he had succeeded in carrying out his mission and if Jolene was right when she said that he would collect bad karma if he broke up Storm and Serena.

“Promise that no one will ever come between us,” I whispered to Lumi.

“What?”

“Don’t let anyone seduce you.”

Lumi brushed her hand over my chest. “Now, whose brain is the one overthinking?”

“I want us to be an inseparable couple who go through thick and thin together.”

Lumi lifted her head, and with hooded eyes, she smiled at me. “We already are!”
