Page 61 of Losing My Siren Luna (Hidden Cove #1)

Lachlan POV

I love flustered Lira. She turns a beautiful shade of pink and can't sit still when I tease her. My little pregnancy comment and the way her whole body, from her chest all the way to her hairline blushed had me wanting to push her a little on the topic, but I know better. She’s still not ready.

She’s barely an adult and I still don’t know what she went through in her uncle’s pack.

I want her. Lord knows I want her. I am going to wait until she is ready, though, and if she never is, I will be okay with that. Anything as long as we are together.

I still like watching her get flustered over me, though.

The fluster she is in now is different from the embarrassed kind of flustered like earlier. She’s anxious about telling me why she went to the brothel today.

I still want to know. I feel like I need to know.

“I didn’t want to mention anything to you because of, um, your distrust in my uncle. I didn’t want to needlessly worry you,” she says in a small hesitant voice, looking up at me through her lashes.

“ Well, now we are going to worry no matter what,” Killian growls.

“Tell me,” I urged her, reaching out and grabbing her hand in mine. She gripped my hand in both of hers, drawing on my comfort in the bond I’m sure. I can’t wait until I can feel it too.

“I think my uncle may be sending someone to come check on me soon,” she whispered.

“What? Why?” I furrowed my brows in confusion. Did he send word to her without me knowing? Does he not trust me to take care of….

Wait.

This sounds familiar to me now. He used to send people to check on her in our first life.

I tried to avoid being a part of it, but I heard mentions of someone from her uncle’s pack coming to visit her to check on her well-being and to see if she was pregnant every few months.

It has been some time since our wedding.

More than enough time to truly be pregnant and be aware of the condition.

I didn’t want to involve myself with Alpha Wayne more than I had to in our first life, and I thought Lira was a trap sent by him.

I wish I had paid better attention to what was going on around her back then.

She is worried enough about this to bring it to the brothel madam’s attention and there has to be a reason why. I fear the reason is an unpleasant one.

“This alliance was meant to bridge our packs through a child,” Lira murmured.

“My uncle is going to send someone to check my condition and to see if I am adhering to my duties.” When she says the word ‘check’, Killian doesn’t miss the shiver that runs up her body, like she fears all that word entails.

“How will they check if you are pregnant and performing your, uh, duties?” I have to ask, needing to know. I fear I already know, but I want to hear it from her. If my suspicions right now are correct, I don't know what I will do.

Lira shrugs her shoulders. “This will be their first time doing so. I’m not even completely sure he will send someone. I just wanted to warn Lady Vera so an incident like what happened to Yasmin won’t happen again.”

“It won’t happen again,” I muttered venomously, pulling her to my side and wrapping my arms around her.

The thought of any man that could do that sort of damage to Yasmin being near my wife makes me and my beast murderous.

I will destroy anyone who tries to upset my wife or disturb the peace in my pack.

No one will be checking Lira in any way.

“I will make sure no men from Alpha Wayne’s pack can cross our borders without an escort to guide them, and no one will be going near you without me by your side. ”

I wish I could ban them from entering all together, but I’ll need the alliance in the near future.

Demon and vampire clans from the north will try to cross over, picking our people off in the outskirts and small towns of the pack.

If I didn’t have Alpha Wayne’s support, my people would suffer greatly.

We don’t have the manpower to fight them off on our own.

I also want to know how this man plans on ‘checking’ my wife. Guilt makes my throat swell imagining the worst and knowing that, because of my neglect, Lira most likely had to suffer with the men her uncle sent on her own.

“ Ask her about it,” Killian demands, wanting to know the truth. He's ready to kill.

“ I can’t. It’s against the contract with her father to reveal we know this is a second life for her.

” I want to ask her more than anything, but my throat burns just imagining the words that form the question in my head.

I’ll never be able to ask. She will hopefully tell me one day when she fully trusts me.

“Thank you,” Lira whispered, melting into my touch. Her whole body relaxes into mine.

“You don’t have to thank me, Lira. You are my wife and my mate.” It feels so good to call her that. It gives me hope that she will figure out the rest and I don’t have to keep any secrets from her. It gives me hope that we will soon be completely open and honest with one another.

“I am,” she turns her head to look up at me. “And you are my husband and mate.”

I grin lovingly down at her. “I am. I want to be your everything, Lira.”

She bit into her bottom lip, her emerald green eyes boring into mine. “Everything?” she asked in a breathy whisper.

“Yes,” I pressed my lips to hers. “Everything. You are my entire world already. I hope to one day be the same to you.”

She shifts her hands to glide them up my chest, then traces my lips with the tips of her fingers.

“I want you to be my everything, Lachlan. I want to….I want to try being with you in the way mates should be.” Her eyes are intense, all sorts of emotions warring behind them, but I can see the fire of her resolve, making my breath hitch when I finally catch on to what she is saying.

“You mean, fully with me?” I murmured, not believing my ears.

I have been patient and not pushed her once, not wanting to make her panic or have a fitful attack again.

I know I don’t deserve even this second chance with her.

I sure as hell will never deserve that from her.

I would have abstained for the rest of our lives if she wanted me to, but if she is wanting it too… .

She bites her lip again, then nods gently.

“I don’t know if I will be able to, but I trust you, Lachlan.

I want to try. I want to trust you with this too.

And,” she looks down at where her hands are resting on my chest. “Val keeps planting these thoughts in my head. They used to make me uncomfortable, but now they make something else stir inside me.”

“What?” Hell, my voice sounds desperate and fanciful even to me. I am so wrapped around my wife’s adorable little fingers and she doesn’t even know it. I’m hanging on to every one of her words like they are a lifeline. My need for her is so great, it’s all consuming.

Her eyes are shining, and I can see that Val is right there on the surface, talking to her, probably encouraging her to say it. Say what she would normally be too timid to say.

“Desire,” she whispers, her fingers flexing against my chest slightly. “I’ve never felt that before.”

“Oh, Lira,” I groaned, pressing my lips to hers, my heart beating out of my chest at her confession.

She is kissing me just as hungrily as I am kissing her, everything around us, everyone witnessing our actions all but forgotten.

It’s just me and Lira, and our desire that is making the air thick as we breathe each other in.

She wants me. She desires me, just like I desire her.

“Can we go back home now?” I asked, not wanting to waste any time. My urgentness makes her giggle.

“What about our date?”

“I’ll take you on hundreds of dates to make up for cutting this one short,” I begged, pressing my lips to hers again, hoping the bond would do its magic on her.

It does. When I pull away, she is in a daze, her face sinfully sexy with her hooded lust-filled eyes and lazy smile.

“Okay,” she grins. “Let’s head back home.”

Meldec POV

“Do you ladies still want me to show you how to do a fishtail braid?” Cedric leans over the bar, running his finger playfully down one of the girl’s noses, making her giggle.

What the hell is a fishtail braid? My beast is snarling inside me, getting more and more upset by the second as I watch Cedric continue flirting with the brothel girls, completely ignoring me even after all this time.

“Is that one of the services you were going to offer the Luna?” Another girl who is straightening a bright pink bow in his hair asks.

This is what I’ve had to watch the past hour or so.

All the women here are fawning all over my mate and I feel powerless to stop it.

The girl that was messing with the bow in his hair was now leaning on his shoulder, laughing at something he had just said that I missed completely because I was too busy watching her touch him.

That really gets my beast snarling, his growls echoing loudly in my head. “ You fucked this up. Fix it!”

“I would if I could,” I groaned internally. “ He won’t even listen to me.”

“DO THE FLOWER THING!” he snapped. “ Do something! Percy gave you an entire list of things he likes. Instead of glaring at him and insulting him, try being nice.”

“I don’t insult him,” I argue, though I know it's not completely true. I’ve let my jealousy get the best of me a number of times seeing him so close to the Luna and Yasmin, even joking and teasing Cherum and the rest of the men on the Luna’s guard, but he won’t give me the time of day.

I snap at him instead of talking to him with respect, which isn't helping me.

“ Try just asking him to go to the bakery with you or to that restaurant your sisters like for dinner. Better yet, take him to meet mom! She always knows how to win someone over.”
