Page 26 of Losing My Siren Luna (Hidden Cove #1)
My heart wrenches inside my chest. The thought of her leaving scares me, but the thought of being the reason for her pain hurts me more.
“ Maybe we should let her go,” I whispered.
“Or maybe you should stop being a jackass and apologize.”
Killian drops to the ground, right in a pile of discarded food and broken glass before giving me back control, forcing the shift. I wince when the glass tears into my ass, but welcome the pain. I deserve to bleed a little after what I just did.
I saw red when Yasmin was right across from my beautiful wife. After the scene with Leona yesterday, I thought another bar-maiden from the brothel interacting with my mate would ignite the same distrust and reservation towards me that incurred yesterday.
And it was Yasmin.
She was the one I called for the most. She was the calmest and easiest to deal with, never wanting more than to do her “job” and leave. She didn’t have disillusions of anything more between us, and I appreciated that about her.
She also looked the most like Lira.
I didn’t realize it then, but I do now. Her blonde hair and lighter coloring, and her meek personality were so much like Lira from before.
Meek would never be a word I would use to describe Lira now. No, she is fierce. She may be broken, but her edges are sharp, and if you try to stand up to her, you will get cut down.
She’s a Luna. It’s in her blood.
I just don’t understand why she would stick up for Yasmin, though. They had no relationship in her past life. They didn’t even cross paths.
That doesn’t matter. Whatever the reason Lira was trying to protect Yasmin, it doesn’t matter now. I just need to find her and beg, grovel at her feet to get her to forgive me.
“ Cherum,” I mind link the Delta, “ Where is she?”
“I don’t think that should be any of your concern yet, Alpha. She does not wish to see you, and I’m not going to let my Luna fall into distress at your anger again.”
My heart is racing hearing my Delta getting defensive for his Luna. I must have truly hurt her for him to have the will to defy me. That should only happen if his Luna’s well-being comes before my order.
“ Is she okay?” I asked meekly.
Cherum snorts, “ Aye. The lass is resilient, that is for sure, but I’m still not going to let the one who triggered such a reaction from her near her right now. I’m not telling you where she is.”
“Why?” I almost snarled at him, getting frustrated with his attitude.
“ Because she is laughing and enjoying herself right now, and I won’t have you come do the same damage that you did this morning.”
She’s laughing. I smile slightly, and Killian relaxes inside me when hearing that she was okay.
“ I won’t do anything harm to her again. I just need to see her.”
“No can do, Alpha. She is with Miss Yasmin, and she doesn’t want you to be around either of them.”
I growled, not wanting to deal with another obstacle to get to Lira right now. “ Just tell me. I….I’m trying to apologize to her. I need to apologize to my wife, damn it.”
Cherum laughs dryly, “ It is not your wife you should be apologizing to first, Alpha. If you do that, you will only disappoint the lass more.”
“What do you mean?”
He sighs heavily, “ You were wrong with the way you spoke to Yasmin this morning, Alpha. She came to the packhouse because she was forced to do things outside her job requirements last night. Gruesome things, by the looks of it. She was poisoned in the act, and went to the packhouse for somewhere safe. You, her alpha, tried to throw her out after your wife took her under her protection.”
“ She looked fine to me,” I say, though thinking back, I’m not sure that’s true. I was so focused on getting her away from Lira that I really didn’t notice much about her.
“ She wasn’t. I think the Luna could relate to her pain, and took personal offense to your treatment of her. If you want Ela to forgive you, it is not her forgiveness I would ask for first.”
“You want me to apologize to a whore?” I asked in disbelief.
“ No,” he growls, “ I want you to apologize to the young woman, and member of your pack, that you almost threw out into the streets for coming to the packhouse for help. She didn’t come here to seek Ela out.
She came here bruised, burned and hurting, and Ela helped her, like a Luna should.
She didn’t see the hurting woman as a whore, even knowing the relationship Yasmin had with her husband.
I’m disappointed that I can’t say the same for her own Alpha.
You used her for your pleasure, but were going to throw her out without any hesitation when she needed help. ”
Shame washes over me, and even Killian is feeling the weight of our Delta’s judgment. Killian, just like me, wanted Yasmin away from Lira. He wasn’t as ferocious about it, but he made a snap judgment too, thinking another whore had come to drive a bigger wedge between me and my wife.
“ Okay,” I tell my Delta solemnly, “ Just tell me where she is. I won’t come to her, I just need to know where she is at.”
I can feel Cherum’s hesitation in the link. I fear that he still won’t tell me, but to my surprise, he does.
“ We are in town, Alpha. Yasmin needed to get her belongings, as she will be moving in to be Ela’s handmaiden alongside Niomi. Yasmin is going to be sharing a room with Gemma from today on.”
I cursed under my breath. Lira told me that Yasmin was staying with her, but I hoped that was just a bad joke.
Wait….
“ Lira went with Yasmin to get her belongings? At the brothel?”
Silence rings loudly in the link for far longer than my nerves can take. Cherum wouldn’t allow for that, surely?
“ She insisted, Alpha.”
“You let my wife go to the damn brothel?!”
Cherum was silent again for several seconds, then said, “ Alpha. No one can make that lass do anything. I did not let Ela go. She told me she was going, and I was welcome to come along.”
Killian snorts in my head, knowing the words our Delta said to be true. We knew the moment she rejected us that her meek personality was just a display of her reserved power. She had more strength and resolve than I could have ever imagined.
“I brought Percy and Maurice with us, and Mel sent extra patrols out to keep the areas we travelled safe. She will be fine, Alpha,” Cherum adds, probably trying to appease my anxiety.
“She better be. Let me know where all you go and when you are traveling back. If you don’t keep me updated, I won’t be able to hold myself back from coming to see for myself that she is okay.”
Cherum sighs, “ Yes, Alpha. I’ll keep you informed.... for now.”
I growled at the ‘for now’ in his reply, but kept my anger at bay as I cut off the link.
Looking around the destroyed dining hall, I groaned, knowing my anger ruined more than just my beautiful wife’s day.
I dusted myself off, pulling the glass from my ass and legs after standing up, then dusted for the staff to come and assist me in clearing the mess I made. At least this mess will be much easier to deal with and restore than the mess I made of my relationship with my wife.
