I furrowed my eyebrows in confusion. He sighed again, then bent to scoop me out of the chair, tossing me over his shoulder and making me squeal. “What are you doing?!”

“Dragging my defiant wife back home,” he chuckles, “but not until we act a little defiant together. Let’s blow off the rest of today and go on a date.”

~

“A date?” I squealed, pinching his sides in an attempt to tickle him and get him to put me down. I don’t know why I am trying. It never works. “What if I’m not done here?”

“What business do you have in a brothel, wife?” he snorts.

I pushed myself up against his back, the wig barely staying on my head as I hung upside down. “The same business you used to have here,” I goaded him. “Put me down.”

Killian growls inside Lachlan’s chest, making Val chuckle at his possessiveness.

“If you think I’m putting you down now, you don’t know me very well,” Lachlan grunts. “I’m sure no one here would dare try and offer you those services.”

“I volunteer!” Yasmin giggles, earning her a growl from Percy. “Oh, hush,” she scoffs, pushing against his chest.

“I have a few services you might enjoy,” Cedric wiggled his eyebrows at me. “I’m sure some of these ladies wouldn’t mind helping to service you as well.” Many of the girls giggle, nodding shyly in agreement.

I press my lips together, knowing he’s joking but trying not to laugh, feeling Lachlan’s irritation rise. Meldec is turning red, glaring at Cedric like he wants to argue with him, but he is wisely keeping his mouth shut.

“We’re leaving,” Lachlan says, his tone rather grumpy now.

“ Poor man,” Val laughed. “ You should just go along with him and try to lift his mood. I expected him to be a lot more furious.”

“I knew he would be fine,” I grinned internally. Lachlan has been impressive with his behavior. I’m surprised he was able to just ignore Cedric’s teasing like that, but I knew he wouldn’t be upset with me.

He walked to the swinging doors with me still over his shoulder, and I waved bye to the girls and Lady Vera. “Thank you for meeting with me today,” I called out to the madam of the house.

She smirks, her eyes twinkling as she watches us. “You as well, Luna. Thank you for the visit. I will consider what to do about what you told me today.”

I smile kindly at her, then toss the wig to Yasmin as it falls completely off my head.

She and many of the girls look amused with the scene Lachlan is making, making my face heat.

Cedric waves his fingers at me with a smirk, then turns on the bar stool to talk to the woman behind the counter, completely ignoring Meldec. The man looks lost on what to do.

“Is it a good idea to just leave them there,” I asked after Lachlan had us out the doors and next to his horse.

“You should worry about yourself right now, wife .” He smacks my bottom, making me jerk up with a yelp, then he lifts me to set me on the saddle of his horse.

I’m glaring down at him, rubbing my butt.

It doesn’t hurt, but the principle of the matter calls for me to make a show of my displeasure with the action.

“That was rude,” I muttered.

“Oh, I’m sorry,” he chuckles darkly. He mounts his horse, pulling my body back against his, his breath fanning over my neck as he whispers in my ear. “Hearing others offering to service you has my wrist a bit twitchy.”

I press my lips together, turning my head away to hide my smile.

“I hope it was worth it,” he murmured in my ear.

“Why?” I whispered breathlessly, the bond and his breath stirring around me making me a bit dazed. “Are you going to punish me, Alpha, for leaving without your permission?”

“Oh, no,” he chuckles, kissing the side of my neck.

“I’m going to do the opposite. I’m going to be showering you with affection the rest of the day and you are going to let me.

Killian won’t take no for an answer after the worry you put us through, and neither will I.

” he presses his lips to my neck two, three times in a soft, sensual way.

“Your Delta, on the other hand, is threatening to handcuff you to him every waking minute from now on. That’s after he nags you to death. Look forward to that when we get home.”

I cringe, knowing Lachlan isn’t joking. “You can save me, can’t you, husband? ” I turn and try batting my eyes at him, the way I see Yasmin flirt with her mate all the time.

Lachlan chuckles deeply, lifting my chin and pressing his mouth to my pouty lips. “I’ll see what I can do. My protection doesn’t come cheap.”

I narrowed my eyes at him, lifting one eyebrow while I tilted my head. “What do you want?”

He smiles broadly. “I already told you. I’m going to be showering you with all my love and affection. You can’t tell me no today.”

I giggled at his cheesiness. “Why would I say no to that?”

“Why would you sneak out to go to a brothel?” he growls. “You are stubborn at strange times, Lira.”

“No I’m not,” I scoff. “You are just extreme at strange times.”

“Maybe,” he smirks. “I’m only extreme when it comes to you, though.”

My face is probably beet red from his words. Even Val is hiding her face behind her tail in embarrassment. How can he say such things so easily?

~

Lachlan took me to a little cafe in the center of town.

We have tea and a large array of snacks.

He isn’t as insistent on me eating a lot to gain weight any longer, but he still enjoys feeding me.

It’s turned into a habit of literally feeding me, like he likes to be the one to feed me bite after bite with his own hand.

When we are in his mother’s garden alone, I don’t mind.

I like the intimate moments with him. Here in this very public cafe where everyone recognizes us, I feel self-conscious and keep trying to wave off his efforts.

“You can’t say no,” he reminded me gruffly. I had to reluctantly endure the embarrassment of being fed like a child, bite after bite of all the treats.

“Please, Lachlan,” I hiss at him when I can’t take any more. “My belly is about to burst.”

“Let me see,” he says, then surprises me by actually resting his hand on my belly and squeezing my soft flesh. I’m sitting down and have a pooch, which makes this horrifying for me. “It feels like there is still room in there for more.”

I covered my face with my hands. “I can’t believe you just squeezed my belly in public. People are going to think I’m pregnant.”

A broad, brilliant grin spread on his face. “I like that idea.”

“ Me too,” Val purrs, all for it.

“ Don’t you start too,” I snapped at her. “ I can’t handle your perverted side with him getting me all flustered.”

“You could just give in to temptation,” she smirks in my head. “ You know you want to. You know he wants to.”

She's right. I’ve sensed he does, feeling his excitement at times when he is holding me in bed, and sometimes when he kisses me I can tell it is causing him discomfort.

He has never pushed me, though. He has never asked for that, or done anything to suggest he wanted more than what I was already comfortable with giving him.

He has proven I can trust him. He has proven that he isn’t the same Lachlan I knew in my first life. He is caring and devoted, filling me with ease when we are together and making my soul feel at peace when memories of my past life begin to be too much.

If it’s with him, my mate, the man who has devoted every day to my happiness since I first opened my eyes again in this life, maybe, just maybe I could give in to more….

“So,” Lachlan, probably sensing my fluster and taking it for anxiety, leans back in his chair, giving me a little bit of space as he pops a grape in his mouth. “What business did you really have at the brothel today? What did the madam mean when she said she would consider what you told her today?”

I bit my lip, thinking of what to tell him, then a teasing thought entered my mind, making me grin.

“I asked her for a job.”

He startles back, his eyes turning menacing. “You did not.”

“No,” I laughed, “but I did enjoy my time there. Cedric and Yasmin had fun talking with her old friends.”

“Hmm,” Lachlan placed another grape in his mouth, “So what did you tell her she needed to consider?”

I sighed. “You don’t give up, do you?”

“Not easily, no,” he grins.

“And you call me stubborn.” He chuckles at my comment, his whole face lighting up, making me swoon from how handsome he is. “Fine,” I sighed, shifting uncomfortably in my chair. “I’ll tell you.”

How do I tell him about my uncle sending men to check on me without making him angry or him thinking I’m crazy? I can’t tell him this is my second life.

“ Why not?” Val asked. “ He knows you are a siren and accepts it.”

“Yes, but if I tell him about my first life I will have to tell him how I died, and that would not be good for the alliance treaty. The pack will need that treaty to remain in place soon.”

“Yeah,” Val sighs, “ You’re right. Just tell him you have a suspicion for now. The same as you told the big boob lady at the brothel. That’s all you can do.”
