Kenny
F uck. How is it Monday already? I am not in the mood to go into the office today, but we have that all-hands-on-deck IT team meeting that I can’t miss.
I pull into a space in the parking garage, grab my travel mug filled with steaming black coffee, and make my way to the elevators that will take me to the building’s lobby.
I can’t help but notice a pleasant scent in the elevator when I enter.
Musky, but with a sweet vanilla undertone. It’s quite nice.
I exit the elevator into the lobby and wave to the security guard at the check-in desk as he’s shoveling the last of a jelly doughnut into his mouth. “Hey, Norman.”
Norman waves half-heartedly.
I make my way to the elevators for the upper floors, and that’s when I notice her.
The first thing I see is the tattoo on her leg.
Is that a raccoon wearing a wizard hat and holding a wand?
Then I see the woman the tattoo belongs to.
She’s got curves in all the right places and then some.
Her black-and-white polka-dot dress has a V-neck so I can see the hint of another tattoo peeking out between her perky breasts.
Fuck me. A sternum tattoo? I can’t. My gaze travels up to her face, and I’m stopped in my tracks.
She has the most piercing blue-green eyes I’ve ever seen.
I bet they’re killer in the sunlight. And don’t get me started on her lips; I can already picture that beautiful, full mouth around my …
Goddamnit, Kenny! It’s only been a month of celibacy. Put your dick back in your pants.
She catches me staring and moves her burgundy hair behind her ear. The elevator arrives and I motion for her to enter first. You know, being a gentleman. I ask her, “What floor?”
“Thirteen. Thanks.” There’s that smell again, musky with a hint of vanilla. It’s her.
“Oh, working at Kroger, huh? Are you new? You must be headed to orientation.”
“Yeah, I am, actually. Do you work there as well?”
“I do. I’m an AV engineer.” I hold out my hand. “I’m Kenny.”
She takes my hand in hers. Her hand is so tiny compared to mine, and I notice a ring on her middle finger, but no wedding ring to speak of. “Tiegan.”
“Well, Tiegan. Twelve is my stop, but good luck on your first day. Welcome to Kroger. I’m sure we’ll run into each other eventually.” I flash her what I hope is a sincere smile. I’m never good at smiling at people.
“Sounds good. Thanks again.”
I exit the elevator, and as soon as the doors close behind me, I let out a big breath I didn’t know I’d been holding in. Holy shit. That might have been the most beautiful woman I’ve ever seen. And she works here. How am I going to get anything done around here now?
I walk over to my cubicle where my friend Rex is waiting for me.
“It’s orientation day, which means fresh meat around here,” he proclaims.
I think about the woman in the elevator, Tiegan. She looks like a Tiegan. “Yeah, I guess so.”
“What’s got your panties in a bunch today?”
“Nothing. I just haven’t been sleeping well, I guess.”
“You ready for the meeting?”
“As ready as I’ll ever be.”
“At least breakfast will be provided,” Rex replies with a big, toothy grin. If free food is offered, Rex will be there.
“Yeah, let’s go get it over with.”
Two hours later and my brain feels like it’s going to jump out of my eye sockets. I couldn’t concentrate for the life of me. All I could think about was her. I wish I would have bent her over in that elevator and fucked her senseless. Welcome to Kroger, sweetheart.
When we’re dismissed, I make a beeline for the elevators. I need a cigarette after that pointless meeting. I pull out my phone to check my messages. Her scent hits me before she does. I steady myself before we both topple over and grab her shoulders.
“Whoa, there, Tiegan,” I say, her name foreign but familiar on my tongue.
“Oh, my gosh. I’m so sorry! I wasn’t paying attention to where I was going,” she says with a blush creeping up her neck.
“It’s all good.” I smile again. “I told you we were going to run into each other sooner or later.”
I let go of her, reluctantly, as she rights herself.
“Well, I guess I don’t have to introduce you two,” Robert, the mail room supervisor, says from behind Tiegan.
“Oh, no. Tiegan and I go way back,” I joke, giving her a teasing grin.
“Yeah, all the way back to this morning,” she quips.
I smile. She’s funny. I like this girl.
“Well, we’ve got a lot of ground to cover. So if you will excuse us, we have a floor to tour,” Rob says to me, looking like the overprotective father.
“Oh, yeah. Sure. I’ll see you around, Tiegan.”
“Hopefully in a less destructive manner.”
I smile again. Gah, I’m doing that a lot today.
I enter the elevator and press the button for the lobby.
That girl is going to be trouble. Once outside, I take a drag of my cigarette. All I know is if she’s going to be anyone’s trouble, she’s going to be mine.
