BE AFRAID
D illion’s heart was thumping with excitement as she drove to Jax’s house.
She’d never done anything like this in her life.
Never snuck out anywhere during the day to have a bout of sex because she was horny as hell.
She wasn’t sure she’d ever been this horny in her life.
The closest she’d ever come to it was in the beginning with Alec.
Looking back, it had more to do with the secrecy of it than the thrill of being naked with him.
They didn’t sneak off into a quiet place for a quick romp like many others who hooked up at the hospital.
Heck, most didn’t even know they were dating for six months.
They weren’t trying to keep it quiet, but no one caught on either.
Good thing it’d gotten out after they’d found out she was pregnant. Which she’d hid for five months while she and Alec made plans and moved in together.
She shivered as she drove to Jax’s.
There was no reason for her to have Alec in her head nor to compare anything between the two of them.
She’d been skittish for years about opening her heart and life up to another man.
But all she could think about was how much more intensely she felt about Jax than any other relationship.
It was making her do things she’d never considered, but not in a horrible way.
Her staff had been stunned when she’d said not to fill the two slots so she could use that time to run some errands.
She stopped in Jax’s driveway and frowned when she didn’t see his SUV, but it pulled in behind her before she could get out.
When she opened the door she was giggling worse than Gianna when her daughter knew she was going to get her way.
Because Dillion knew she was getting hers right now too.
“In the house,” she said. “Now.”
He looked at her as she grabbed his hand. “How come you didn’t tell me what you wanted for lunch? I could have stopped to get it.”
She stopped to stare at him as if he’d had two heads.
Well, he did. One on his shoulders and the other between his legs that she was going to be getting her hands on quickly.
“Jax! Are you really this slow?”
He unlocked his door and turned to look at her. It was as if it finally dawned on him. “Oh,” he said, laughing. “Shit, you should have said that .”
“No,” she said, yanking him past the closed door. “I shouldn’t have to say it. You should have read between the lines.” Then she remembered he wasn’t so good at doing that. “Start undressing. We are on the clock.”
They were both whipping their clothes off in record time, articles flung in the living room, the staircase, the upstairs hallway, and the entrance to his room.
She was able to get her clothing off faster than him, but the minute he was naked, she pushed him backward until he hit his bed and then landed on his back.
She crawled on top of him. “I need to get a condom,” he said.
“Where are they?” she asked. “Don’t move.”
“In that drawer over there,” he said, looking toward his nightstand. “You know, you’re a little scary like this.”
“Be afraid,” she said, opening the drawer. “Be very, very afraid.”
She laughed, grabbed the condom, and held it up in the air as if she’d won the best prize at the circus.
That was what this felt like right now with the urgency and movements all over the bed that she was doing.
She wrapped her hand around his dick, put the condom between her teeth, and tore it open with one hand like a redneck getting to his Slim Jim.
His eyes were wide, but he was smiling. She covered him, smiled back, then climbed on him and sank down fast, her head falling back, her hips lifting and going back down again to get the full feel of him.
“I’m terrified,” he said, watching her move up and down. “In the best way possible. Am I allowed to participate or do I just have to lie here and take it? I can take one for the team if I need to.”
“Put your hands on me,” she said. “My breasts. You know what I like. Do it.”
His eyebrows lifted slightly. Maybe there was more firmness to her words than she meant, but he put his large hands on her breasts, cupping her, his thumbs grazing her nipples.
Being direct had its advantages.
Oh yeah, that was what she loved.
How sensitive she was there.
She was riding him now, faster than before, his thumbs moving as if her body was a banjo and he was catching up with the beat.
“You’re going to have to slow down,” he said. He let out another groan and she felt him tensing under her.
Normally he had all the patience in the world, but she didn’t right now. She was thinking he might not either.
“We are on the clock,” she said. “We can’t.”
He moved his hands and pinched both of her nipples at the same time. The moment of pain hit her chest and poured right between her lower lips causing her to jerk into a different rhythm. A better one.
“Again?” he asked.
“Yes!”
He did it again, she jerked into him tighter, then moved while she squeezed him.
Her body was building, it was cresting, and she wanted to feel all the pulsing that she always did with him.
And when he pinched her a third time, a little harder than the last, her eyes crossed, her toes might have even curled behind her, her head went back and she screeched as everything inside her let go in wave after wave of a pulsing bliss.
His hands dropped, he grabbed her hips and was thrusting up into her while she continued to come.
She stayed relaxed and open and just relished in the feeling while he was making them one.
When he came, he threaded his fingers into her hair and pulled her down to his chest, just holding her tight against his body.
“Is that your heart thumping or mine?” he asked. “I can’t tell anything.”
“I think it’s both of our hearts,” she said. “That was one hell of a workout.”
She reached her hand behind her to touch her back.
“What’s wrong?” he asked. “Did I hurt you?”
“Nope,” she said. “I wanted to see how sweaty I was. Pretty bad. We need to clean up. I can’t go back to my office sweaty like this, but I don’t have any deodorant either with me.” She climbed off of him and flopped on his bed. “Oh, I’ve got some in my desk at work.”
He laughed. “Do you really think we can get into the shower together and out in five minutes?”
“Yep,” she said. “I’m not washing my hair. Can you?”
“We can try,” he said, rolling off the bed. He stood up and went to the bathroom and she followed.
He turned the shower on and she jumped in while he took care of the condom, squealed that the water wasn’t warmed enough but it woke her body up.
She lathered up and was rinsing off in two minutes, then she climbed out and grabbed the towel he handed her while he got in.
It just occurred to her that her clothes were all over the house.
She dried off, then went in search of everything in his room while she gripped the towel together in front of her with one hand.
Jax was in his bedroom a minute later wrapped in a towel while she was hooking her bra. Somehow it ended up under the chair in his room and had taken some searching to find it.
She picked up his boxer briefs and tossed them to him after she pulled up her underwear.
“This was fun,” she said. “I’ve never done it before. Not sure we’ll ever get the chance again. Guess fate was on our side.”
He laughed. “Could be.” He found his pants and pulled them on; she was in the hallway and grabbed her pants to do the same; her shirt was at the top of the stairs next to his.
“I’m not sure how I got up the stairs with one shoe on,” she said. But there was one on the top stair. The other she could see closer to his living room where she kicked it off after pulling him toward the stairs.
“I don’t remember much at all,” he said. “Not after you told me you weren’t here to eat, but I’m starving.”
“Me too,” she said. She looked at her watch. It was fifteen minutes to get back to the office and they still had thirty.
Amazing how that bout of sex was only about five minutes long when it felt as if her body was singing in relief for five hours.
“I’ve got time if you do,” he said. “We can find food. A sandwich doesn’t take long.”
“A sandwich sounds delicious,” she said. “You know, I got thinking maybe you wouldn’t mind spending the night on Friday with Gianna there. Or is that too much too soon?”
“I’m fine with it,” he said. “If you are. I’m leaving you to call those shots.”
“Maybe we can take her to dinner or watch a movie with her. Something fun. She goes to bed early and sleeps in on the weekends too.”
“Meaning you want me to be gone before she wakes up?” he asked as he pulled out bread and two kinds of sandwich meat.
She reached for the turkey and then snagged a slice of cheese.
“You don’t have to leave,” she said. “But that is up to you. I thought we could do something together, the three of us, on Saturday. Gianna sleeps in, so she might not even realize you spent the night anyway if we’re up and downstairs.”
He nodded. “I’m good with that. Mustard or mayo?”
“Neither,” she said, putting her sandwich together and taking a bite.
“You eat dry sandwiches?” he asked, looking appalled. “That’s a crime.”
She laughed. “You learn to eat many things when you have no time in the hospital,” she said.
“Good point,” he said. “I was talking to Roni when you texted me earlier. She had a visitor today. Two of them.”
“Who?” she asked, chewing. She couldn’t believe how hungry she was. She moved over to his cabinet, found the chips, pulled the bag out, and put it on the island. The two of them eating in the kitchen, standing up.
“Carolyn and Diane. They wanted to know if we’ve had our date yet.”
Dillion laughed around a mouthful. “It took them long enough to ask questions. Wonder what they’d think if they could see us now?”
The polite never-a-hair-out-of-place doctor was no more when she was with Jax Hollister.
She walked over and pushed some of his hair back into place too, knowing she wasn’t the only one that was discombobulated.
He filled her in on what Roni said. “I expect someone will seek one of us out. Not sure how we want to play this.”
“We say we are dating. It’s been long enough and they don’t need to know how many dates or how long it’s been, do they?”
“Not at all,” he said. “I wanted to make sure we had our facts straight.”
She frowned. She did not like hearing that.
It reminded her of what she’d said before when she was hiding things from people.
Or they were hiding things from her.
She didn’t want to be that person.
“How about we tell the truth if asked direct questions? I’m not keen on lying or hiding things when there is no reason for it.”
“I didn’t mean it that way,” he said. “I’m sorry if you feel it. That I’m hiding what we’ve got. I’m not. I’m ready to be open but not sure if you are. You’ve got a practice with employees and if I wanted to stop in and say hi, I’m sure they’d figure it out soon enough.”
She moved over and put her lips to his. “I expect to see you in my office to say hi anytime you want.”
