Page 83 of Fallen: Darkness Ascending, Vol.1

W aking up in the glamorous bed, a bed Delphine was actively looking for in the real world and couldn’t find, a grin covered her face with anticipation.

Delphine had no hangover from taking the drugs in this dreamland, and she felt strong and happy, not like what she felt before she fell asleep.

Malphas had been hinting all week that tonight was special.

It already was her favorite holiday, Halloween, but now she was going to spend it with him.

Stretching her long arms over her head she looked around.

The room was still the vibrant shade of Merlot with the gold accents and the black carpet but there was more tonight.

Candles covered every inch of the room black, gold, silver, white and blood red.

The lights flickered, throwing shadows on the walls that were covered in fake spider webbing and illuminated the massive black cauldron in the middle of the room.

Behind the cauldron was a table laden with food and bottles.

Gasping in surprise at what was laid out before her, Delphine couldn’t help the little squeal that snuck out.

Malphas had been listening to her prattle on when talking about her favorite holiday!

The work he must have put into all this was literally one of her dreams come true.

Squealing and hugging her arms around her body Delphine kicked her feet giggling.

She knew he was here in the room somewhere but couldn’t hold in the cool sexy woman appearance she always tried for. This was perfection.

Warm hands wrapped around her waist pulling her backwards towards the top of the bed.

The silky sheets whispered against her skin leaving a trail of wordless whispers against her skin.

It was unsettling to hear them, but the warmth of Malphas’s body drove out any rambling thoughts of what Delphine thought she may have heard and concentrated on what Malphas was doing.

She loved the holiday but sometimes the veils between the worlds were just a little too thin for her liking.

“So, little lamb. What did you do to speed up our meeting tonight? I can tell you did something. Was the excitement for what I have planned just too much for your curious self to wait?” Malphas wrapped his arms tighter around her body as he smelled up and down her neck moving her hair to the side.

“I can feel your hunger for me and for true nutrients. Good thing I thought ahead and guessed that you would eat like crap to get back into my arms.”

Pushing Delphine to her feet, Malphas rose from the bed, letting his feathers slowly fall from his wings to pull her hair up and tuck in.

The feathers were creating a living crown of white feathers, a new trick Delphine had not seen these last three months.

Feathers slowly started to wrap around her wrists and ankles forming beautiful wristlets and anklets that seemed to

glimmer as she walked. Malphas reached out and grabbed her hand guiding her to the table.

A large chair took over the head of the table.

Purple cushions enchanted the detailed carving work of feathers, clouds and bones.

Staring at the macabre cluster of items Delphine looked at the other end of the table.

Sitting across from the large chair sat a dainty silver chair.

Covered in moons, flames and bones with light gold cushions she assumed was hers to use for the night.

Taking the seat Malphas pushed the chair into the table after she sat, then he walked around to the other end of the table.

Malphas waved his hand and the remaining feathers began to dance on the wind piling gold plates high with food, uncorking wine and champagne and even pouring into goblets.

The feathers brought Malphas his goblet of finely worked gold, it matched the chair in bulk and beauty.

Feathers, clouds, and bones covered it, catching the handle light and reflecting everything back.

Catching hers in time not to drop it, Delphine looked at her tarnished silver cup.

The age was evident, but the tarnish added an otherworldly beauty to the goblet.

Flames reached halfway up the cup to eat at bones piled around the middle of the cup.

The bones were stacked to the rim where a small line of triple moons were stamped around the lip.

Staring at the craftsmanship of the goblet Delphine couldn’t believe just how profoundly beautiful the piece of art was.

Shaking her head from the rambling thoughts of cups and not of the handsome man before her Delphine locked eyes with Malphas while she raised her goblet.

“To the man of my dreams, for not being a walking red flag, listening to what I have to say and hearing it, for knowing my body better than I do and most of all for loving me in my entirety.”

His eyes sparkled as he leaned his head down to the goblet.

Lifting it he eyed her like she was something to eat.

There was a hunger there that she hadn’t seen before.

Whatever he had planned tonight would be absolutely magical.

Their pillow talk wasn’t much, just her prattling on but Malphas never opened up.

Maybe he knew she was going to try to move on and decided tonight was the night to finally let her in.

Bringing the goblet to her lips Delphine let the sweet red wine flow into her mouth, closing her eyes in bliss.

Deep dark cherries, cedar and a taste of smoke.

This wine was one of the best ones that she had ever tasted.

Moaning her satisfaction and opening her eyes Malphas had a smirk across his face.

“You wanted to know why tonight was going to be special and it’s about time I finally tell you everything. Let’s drink and eat, enjoy each other and we can get to the spiral part later?” The smile filling his whole face, Malphas waved his feathers forward.

Plates ladened with food slide in-front of Delphine.

Scallops, oysters, crab on one mini plate.

Veggies and fruits on another and the third had a slice of dark chocolate cake with a chocolate ganache.

Grabbing her fork to take a bite of the cake Malphas waved his hand to have the feathers stop her hand.

“Leave that for last with a special bottle of champagne that I have picked out for us. Let’s do all the other things first and then celebrate with the end of the world cake.

” The chuckle busting through the words made Delphine smile back at Malphas.

His laugh was like the ganache looked, thick and sweet.
