Chapter 6
JORDY
Well shit. That was…not what I expected to happen tonight. Kissing Dani wasn’t in my plans unless I absolutely had to. But when she kissed me, I forgot all about Elena until Dani mentioned her looking at us.
When I returned a smile to Dani, it wasn’t because Elena was looking—it was because she wasn’t looking. I knew she’d assumed that she was right, but I didn’t want to tell her otherwise. I was scared she’d move away from me if she realized no one was watching.
“Wanna go get a drink?” I asked her, hoping she might want to get away for a minute. I was hot and sweaty and it wasn’t from the dancing—well, only partly. Dani had sparked a fire inside of me, and now I couldn’t stop imagining what she might look like under that dress. Which I shouldn’t have been doing, because we were friends. Just friends .
“I’ll take another jalapeno margarita,” she told the bartender and I added, “Make that two.”
She swayed where she stood, looking around at the other guests in attendance. We knew almost everyone that was here.
“Here you go,” the bartender offered and we took our drinks, leaning against the bar and people watching. The jab of an elbow pressed into my ribs, and I followed the direction of Dani’s eyesight to my sister and her husband, Conrad.
“Ew,” I groaned, seeing the unfortunate event of my sister making out with Conrad on the dance floor.
Dani chuckled. “I just love them. I knew they were gonna end up together when I first saw them.”
I raised a brow, wondering what special powers she had. “Oh really? What gave it away?”
Flickering her eyesight to mine, she smirked and took a sip of her margarita. “He had a sparkle in his eye.”
“Sparkle? Seriously. That’s your answer?”
Her hand pressed against her chest, offended. “Wow. Yes, that is my answer. Sometimes you just know.”
I sighed. “Oh no, you’re a romantic too.”
She turned her shoulders square with mine and replied, “What’s wrong with being a romantic? You don’t believe in love?”
How the hell did I get myself into this conversation? I couldn’t tell her my real answer, which is that I absolutely did not believe in love. At least, not for me. “Nope. I don’t.”
She stepped closer with a narrowed expression. “Why?”
I glanced at Dani, her brown eyes waiting and hoping for a different answer. “I just… I don’t know if love is for me. It’s never worked out.”
“ Yet . You’re missing that word in your sentence.”
My brows creased. “No I’m not. I didn’t include that word on purpose. There is no yet . It’ll never work out for me.”
She chugged the rest of her drink and hopped off the barstool. She stepped into me with her hands pressed against my chest. “That’s a shame, Jordy. You’d make beautiful babies and probably would be an amazing dad.”
What the fuck. Why are my balls tightening? Did she just turn me on?
“While you’re over here contemplating your life, I’m gonna go dance. Okay?” Dani smirked.
I stood there like an idiot, my mouth open while I watched her walk across the space.
I sipped my drink, my eyes staying locked onto her as I watched the way she moved on the dance floor. It was like watching the waves move perfectly against the shore. She was irresistible and perfect.
The song changed and a Kings player walked up to talk to her. “What the fuck?” I muttered to myself.
Don’t dance with her. Don’t dance with her.
He’s dancing with her, dammit.
I sat my glass on the bar top, and beelined my way to her. His hands dipped down to Dani’s hips, and I could practically feel the steam coming out of my ears.
He will not touch her.
“Excuse me,” I interrupted, “this is my date.”
He laughed, stepping back. He was one of our lineman… he knew better.
“Oh no, did I upset you?” Dani asked with a smirk.
She knew what the fuck she was doing. She was toying with me.
I stepped into her, gripping her close to me, and damn did that mess me up when I did that. Dani was making me dizzy—or maybe it was the tequila.
I couldn’t help but trail my hands down to her ass and she glanced back at me. “You know that you’re breaking a rule, right?” she purred.
“Mhm… and what are you gonna do about it?”
Her eyes glossed over, almost like I could hear her drunken thoughts because that was exactly what this was. We were drunk and horny, and she looked so good.
Her lips twisted into a smirk. “I’m thinking of ways that I could get you back.”
I dipped my hands again and squeezed.
“You’ll regret that,” she whispered, leaning into me. “Just you wait and see.”
Oh, I couldn’t fucking wait to see how she’d punish me. Wait—did I have a new kink? I most certainly did, but was it because it sounded enticing or because it was Dani? My eyes lingered over her, taking her in.
Shit, we needed to stop dancing.
Abort. Abort. Abort.
“I think I’m gonna go ahead and go back to the room,” I choked out, pulling away slightly.
Dani glanced at me, a smirk slightly hidden in the corner of her mouth. What was she up to? “Oh good. I’m exhausted, I’ll come with you,” she replied.
“Ah, no. You can stay and party with everyone, it’s okay.”
She shook her head and insisted, “No. I want to go ahead and shower and get to bed. I’m so tired.”
I took a deep breath, knowing there was no way I could try and argue my way out of this one. We had to share a room anyway, so there was no escaping. I was trapped with my best friend, who I might now find attractive, and I didn’t know how to feel about that.
A slap stung my ass cheek as Dani giggled, walking past me. “Let’s go, big boy. I’ll help you untie your shoes.”
Ugh. And there it went. Attraction gone, replaced by annoyance.
Dani walked a few paces ahead of me, and when I realized I had been staring at her ass the whole time, I knew that the attraction was very much still there. I was utterly lying to myself.
Once we made it back to our room, we agreed I would shower first, since I had to sleep on the cot, and she would go second. No big deal. Easy decision and discussion.
After taking my turn, I plopped onto the cot and struggled to get comfortable. Listening to the shower running didn’t help me because I was definitely not supposed to be imagining my best friend naked in the shower. And I definitely wasn’t meant to be thinking about her sleeping in the bed next to mine.
Distract yourself.
The only light illuminating the room was the silver reflection of the moon through the high vaulted windows. A creak from the bathroom door filled the space and Dani walked out in her black lacy nightgown moving around the bed closest to me.
I held my breath and tried to keep my eyes closed, so she’d think I was asleep. That lasted until I started to hear muffled noises coming from her.
Turning onto my side, I tried not to make a lot of noise, hoping I could stay incognito. A sliver of light fell directly over Dani’s face as I watched her brows crease together and her mouth open in pleasure.
Holy shit. Was she—
My eyes trailed down to her arm which moved slowly under the sheets as she continued to arch her back slightly off the mattress.
Yes she was. Oh my God. My dick tented in my sweatpants as I watched her. No, I shouldn’t have been watching her. This was wrong, this was so, so wrong, but—
Another muffled moan. I couldn’t watch this. I turned and lay on my back, staring at the ceiling as I tried to focus on anything except her. Literally anything. Broccoli. Potatoes. Strawberries.
Damn, now I was hungry.
I heard a soft “Fuuuck” come out of her mouth and I thought I’d jizz in my pants from just listening to her. I just listened to my best friend come, and I didn’t hate it. Actually, I loved it.
I took a few deep breaths and turned again on my side only to be met with a smirking Dani.
“Whoa. What the fuck are you doing?” I gasped.
“Oh, I was just double checking that you were awake and heard that. Goodnight Jordy,” she cooed, turning onto her side with her back facing me.
“What the hell!” I said, sitting up. “You did that on purpose?”
“Retaliation, my dear. I told you it was on my terms. You grabbed my ass and made me horny, knowing damn well I’d been drinking tequila, and I needed a release. Therefore, you had to listen to it since you made me so worked up. Now… goodnight, Jordy. I’ll see you in the morning.”
Damn. She knew I was awake the whole time.
What a woman.
