Chapter 14

JORDY

“So, what’s going on with you and Dani? I thought you were just friends?” Shy asked from the beach chair next to me.

I smirked because, until yesterday, I had too. “We are friends. We just—”

“Fucked?”

Conrad and Shyloh laughed and I chuckled with the drink against my lips. Pulling a swig from the bottle, I cleared my throat. “Well, it’s a little bit more complicated than that. We’re just… new.”

But the more I thought about it, the more I wanted this to be something bigger than just messing around. I think I was starting to have feelings, if that’s what is was. I didn’t want to just have sex with Dani. I wanted to talk to her and hold her hand. I know that the rules clearly stated, ‘Do not fall in love with Dani’ but here I was, thinking about falling in love with her.

“Look, all I’m saying is that you and Dani look great together. To be completely honest with you… I thought you’d been hooking up forever. I assumed that’s why you and Elena broke up,” Shyloh stated.

I sat up, pointing my finger at him. “Don’t you dare make accusations like that about me. I was the one that was cheated on , not the other way around.”

Shy held his hands up in defense. “You know what, I’m gonna go ahead and start getting dressed for the rehearsal dinner. You should too.”

The three of us made our way back to our empty resort rooms. The girls still weren’t back yet, which was weird. I showered, shaved, brushed my teeth, got dressed, but Dani still wasn’t back. I sent her a text, and no reply.

Did she get kidnapped or something? The dinner was in twenty minutes.

A beep and a click of the door caught my attention as I was fastening the button around my wrist. When I glanced up, my entire body froze.

Dani was…

“Your mouth is on the floor Jordy. It’s not a good look,” she said, walking to the bedside drawer and opening it to get her purse and phone.

“Wait—where did you get dressed?” I asked, taking in Dani’s body in the black satin dress that pulled around her waist, exposing a delectable amount of cleavage and wrapped tightly around her hips. “You look—”

“The girls had a spa day and Lenna surprised us with a shopping spree, makeup, and hair. It was a lot of fun. Do you like?” she asked, spinning around.

I closed the space between us. “Oh, I much more than like this dress. You are an absolute smoke show.”

She smiled—beamed, actually. “I like these compliments from you,” she crooned. “I could get used to them.”

I wrapped my hands around Dani’s waist and tugged her against me. “Well, I could get used to a lot of things with you.”

Leaning down, I placed a gentle kiss on her lips before pulling away. “Alright, let’s get going.”

At the door frame of our room she stopped, pressing her finger into my chest. “Did you tie your shoes all by yourself?”

“I sure did. I had a great teacher and it only took me one try to get it right.”

Leaning onto her toes, she pressed a gentle kiss into my lips. Pulling away slightly, she said, “I’m so proud of you.”

Something about those words sent a shock through my nervous system. I didn’t know the last time someone was proud of me. But I loved hearing it from the one person that mattered the most.
