Chapter 34

DANI

Eight weeks later

“So, are you finding out what you’re having?” Lenna asked as we combed through rows of baby clothes in the department store.

“I think so. I was waiting for a phone call from the doctor, but she hasn’t called yet.”

“Maybe she’ll call tomorrow.” Lenna peered at her watch. “We should probably get going. The game will start in a few hours, and we need to get past security to the suite.”

My mouth opened. “Wait? I’m supposed to be on the sidelines working today?”

Lenna smiled, wiggling her brows. “Not today. Courtesy of Lathan Allaire.”

“Wow. I mean, we met with him, and he was really nice, but why is he being so extra nice?” I glanced at my feet.

She shrugged, grabbing my arm and locking hers through it. “Jordy said something about Lathan loving surprises .”

“Huh. That’s strange.”

“Maybe a little, but I know I’m not passing up an opportunity to be in a suite. Are you?”

I laughed. “Absolutely not.”

We got through security and, of course, my game day brain started to go through the mental checklist for things to do. Glancing at the social media, ensuring they were in their places. Tee happily took my position on the field, chatting up all the players. My little socialite.

I spotted Jordy warming up and stretching, and I honestly didn’t realize just how flexible he was. I found myself biting my lip, watching him while heat spread through my skin. He must have mind-reading capabilities, because he turned to look my way in the open suite, waving and blowing a kiss.

“Awe. My little brother’s so sweet.”

I smirked, knowing that last night there was nothing sweet about Jordy Hughes in my bedroom.

“What’s that smirk for?” Becca added from beside Lenna.

I sighed. “I really don’t think you wanna know.”

Lenna fake gagged. “I’m gonna get another drink.”

With Lenna’s absence, Becca saddled her way beside me. “So, sex is good, I assume?”

“Very good,” I answered, sipping my water with lime. “Almost like me becoming pregnant has turned Jordy into a feral beast.” My eyes tracked him running back into the locker room, fist bumping kids on the way in. He was going to be a dad, and I knew he’d be a great one.

“C’mon! Where was the flag!” A woman was screaming through the suite. Actually, it wasn’t some woman—it was me. I had become a rage-filled fan, and I didn’t give a rat’s ass about what I said or who heard it.

As if the ref could hear me, he threw the yellow flag and signaled pass interference, pushing our offense to first and goal. We were up by three touchdowns, but the Kings didn’t let off. They never did. This was a playoff game. This was one step closer to the championship.

We watched in anticipation as the ball was snapped, soaring and falling into Jordy’s hands. I stood up, jumping and screaming, almost positive that I peed myself a little.

Fifth yard line.

One yard line.

Touchdown!

The entire stadium erupted. We cheered, Becca and Lenna hugged me, and I turned my gaze to Jordy.

He held the ball, cradling it like a baby when Tee ran over with two other footballs, handing them to Jordy.

He positioned himself to where I was, but the camera was solely focused on him

Turning one football around, it read: Girl.

Turning the second football around, it also read: Girl.

Wait.

He blew me kisses and pointed to the Jumbotron where his face was plastered across it.

“Hey, Kings Nation! I am here for a very important announcement. As many of you know, my beautiful Dani is pregnant with our babies.” Jordy grinned, eyes squinting. “Yes, you heard that right. Two babies.” He holds up two fingers. “Dani, I don’t know if you saw it, but on those two footballs, it said girl number one and girl number two. Don’t be mad, but I intercepted the call from the doctor because we wanted to surprise you.”

The screen flashed to the catch and celebration with the two footballs, with Jordy’s voice narrating on top of it. “I can’t wait to raise two beautiful little girls that I hope are just like you.”

His face popped back on the screen, and it felt like he was looking right at me. Only me.

“I love you.” He blinked. “Now, let’s go kick some as—!”

The crowd erupted into roar of cheers as Becca and Lenna crowded around me, their arms crushing me. A door burst open behind us.

“Move bitches!”

Tee immediately wrapped his arms around me, squeezing me tight. “It has been the hardest secret to keep from you. I felt like an awful friend, but Jordy reassured me that it would all be okay, and you wouldn’t be mad.” He pulled from the hug and eyed me. “Are you mad?” he asked with a scared little look on his face.

I smiled. “No, I’m not even close to being mad—I’m thrilled.”

“I’m so happy for you, Dani,” he blubbered, his arms encircling me.

“I’m happy, too!”

After the game, we waited for the guys in the private parking lot behind the stadium. Conrad and Shy made their way out first. They were coaches and didn’t need to stay to shower like the players. I’m sure Lenna and Becca were ecstatic that they didn’t have to wait for them so long.

“See you later, Dani!” Becca called. Lenna couldn’t respond because Conrad was already making out with her on the way to the car.

I heard the door open, directing my attention to the few players walking out.

And then there he was.

Jordy.

My handsome, kind, sweet man.

He smiled, dabbing up the other players before jogging his way to me with a child-like smile. Wild and excited. “There’s my girl.” He wrapped his arms around me, spinning me before placing my feet back on the ground. “Sorry, correction—my girls .” He leaned down to kiss my stomach before kissing my lips. “I hope you’re okay with what I did. I wanted it to be a surprise and special. I wanted the world to know that you are mine and I am yours.”

His blue eyes shone against the city lights, and I knew that he was in this for the long haul. Jordy was in love with me, and I was madly in love with him.

“Should we get going?” he suggested, gesturing to the parking lot.

“Ah. Dammit.” I came to a halt.

“What’s wrong?” Jordy asked. His eyes searched mine, terrified that something was happening to me.

I sighed. “Nothing. My shoes are untied, and I am struggling to bend over these days.”

He smiled. “I can tie them.”

Squatting in front of me, he grabbed the laces and quickly tied them in the perfect bow. “There.” He patted the shoe. “Perfect.”

“Oh, so you’re a professional shoe tier now?” I raised my brows, shifting on my feet.

He straightened his pretend bow tie. “I absolutely am.”

We laughed and his rough hand slid into mine, intertwining our fingers. I giggled. “So, no more Velcro boy, it seems?”

He cut his eyes to me. “Yep. But you’re still…mama.”
