“What do we do now?” she asks.
I stand and lift her against me. “We go to sleep and figure out our plan in the morning.”
When I move toward my bed, she pulls on my hair.
“Hawk,” she says.
I glance over my shoulder at him sleeping in her bed. I say his name louder, and he jerks awake. His sleepy eyes meet mine. I nod my head toward my room, and he pushes up.
I don’t bother with boxers but lay Evan down and crawl into bed next to her, gathering her against me. She curls into me. So much shit happened tonight. I just want to hold her and know she’s safe in my arms, in my bed.
Hawk climbs in beside Evan. “What happened?”
“Party got busted. Cops took us to the station. Cam’s dad picked him up before my dad arrived.”
Hawk puts his hand on Evan’s hip and slides up next to her. “He was drunk when I left.”
“He was still drunk at the station.” I slide my hand on Evan’s waist and meet Hawk’s eyes. “There will be consequences from tonight.”
Evan’s gaze tips up to me. “I didn’t?—”
“Not you, little devil.” I brush my lips against hers. That longing to sink into her and claim her presses on the back of my mind. But she’s been through a lot, and tonight isn’t the night to push. “We’ll all have consequences from our actions.”
She rests her head against my chest, and her breath blows across my skin.
“Annie doesn’t want to be alone with Chase,” Hawk says. “She told him she knows about his cheating.”
“I broke up with him.” She trembles in my arms. I wish I’d fucking killed him.
“We need to talk tomorrow. Figure out how to handle all this, but for now, we need to sleep. We have a scrimmage in the morning.”
Chapter 4
EvanAnn
An alarm goes off, and Damon kisses me before getting out of bed. Hawk kisses my temple and leaves too. I’m too tired to move and snuggle back into the warmth Damon and Hawk left behind.
A hand shaking my hip wakes me. “Evan.”
I open my eyes and squint at Damon. “What?”
“You need to go to your own bed.” He rubs my hip under his covers. “I’m leaving for hockey.”
I nod and snuggle with his pillow. I don’t want to move an inch. His pillow smells like him. He chuckles and lifts me into his arms, dragging me from the warmth.
“But the bed will be cold.” I burrow my nose into his shirt as he walks into my room.
He lays me down and pulls the covers over me. I release an exasperated sigh at the cold bed and narrow my eyes on him. His jaw is bruised and my fingers itch to touch him there.
He didn’t answer me about who he got into a fight with. Was it Chase? Wasn’t the whole point of using me for revenge to prevent them from fighting Chase directly?
Smirking at my disgruntlement, Damon dips his head and kisses me like we have all day until I want to drag him into bed. When he stands, I sigh in disappointment.
“Are you coming to the game today?” He runs his hand through his hair.
“I don’t think so.” I never checked in with Mia. When I texted her from the bathroom at the party, she was busy with a guy. When Chase left me, I didn’t want to interrupt her to have her try to find me in the middle of nowhere. She’s new to the area. And what if she was with Jackson Riordan? And she brought him with her?
Maybe he’s changed and maybe he hasn’t. I didn’t want to risk it.
