The metal picks that I had used to pick the back entrance were safely tucked away into the small pockets on the body suit. As I entered into the building through the back entrance, I was careful not to make too much noise. It was partly dark, and the slightest movement would have sent objects careening onto the concrete floors.
I didn't want to get shot.
I had heard it didn't feel that great.
There were approximately three rooms and a bathroom back here, and the rest was the open floor space of the warehouse. I moved with the speed of a tortoise and tried all three doors. Only one had slightly creaked open, but I found no traces of my sister at any of the locations.
Crouching down, I waited until I saw Valentin show his father the detonator. Astrid's words had chimed in clear within my head.
“You're in deep with the Russians,”Her voice vibrated through my head.
I couldn't worry about how many lies had been told. Yara was the mission, and I had to find her. Walking out from my hiding spot and into the intensity unfolding before my eyes, I threw my hands up in defeat. That was when I saw Liam snatch some woman and a gun went to her head as I joined them.
I didn't ask any questions until we were at a safe distance and near the cars.
"Who the hell is this?" I asked Liam.
"Get in!" Val screamed.
We were all piling into the SUV and driving away at breakneck speed and into oncoming traffic. I looked behind us just in time to see men running and the building going up into a huge fire tornado.
"It had to be done," Val said above the crazy woman's screams.
I was in the front seat this time, and Liam had taken the back with the woman. She was hysterical and crying. A river of mascara had begun to carve out a path down her face.
"Again, who is this?" I asked above her wailing.
"This.... this is the woman who has been engineering all of this. She had you hired for the job and teamed up with my uncle to try and take the Bratva. She's also my mother's sister, Katia."
I reached back and slapped the crap out of her. She quit crying and looked at me through red eyes. I hadn't felt anything emotion wise about hitting her. Liam trained his eyes on me.
"Why is my sister involved in this?"
She actually spit at me and I went to slap her again. "Lady, I will actually shoot you right now."
"Talk." Liam nudged her with the gun. "Or I'll let her, family or not."
"You already killed, Viktor," she sneered.
"But you're alive because I allow it," Liam said. "Now tell Nova what she wants to know or we're going to be burying you, secret son or not."
She adjusted her lightly tinted red hair and squeezed her eyes shut. I was about to back hand her again when her eyes opened, and she focused on me. Her Russian accent came through a little stronger once she began to speak. "Viktor and I found Capone through a Treyway Kings associate...we needed a drug supplier. When I put out feelers to have the ruby stolen, I put out a hit on you, Ms. Hemmens. For some reason no one in the area would touch you, and that was when Capone stepped up and offered to do it. He likes little girls....he traffics them and he took a shine to your sister."
I saw red and my hand lashed out to smack her, but she caught my hand and yanked me back. My body hit Val's arms and caused the entire car to swerve.
"Liam, get them under control," he said.
The whir of sirens filled the inside of the car. We could’ve been pulled over, but I didn't care. The only thought on my mind was being with this woman. She was the cause of all my problems. My hands began to fly but so did Katia and she hauled off and kicked me. A burning sensation hit my chest as I flew backwards, and my back hit the dashboard.
"Umph." The wind left my body, but I wasn't finished.
"Seriously, Liam!" Val screamed.
"I'm trying," he hollered back.
I straightened myself up prepared to attack again, but Liam stopped me.
