I frowned. "Get involved?"
"That's what I said." She shrugged.
"Astrid, we've been friends for years. You've known Yara since she was a baby." I starred at her hard. "What if this were Lexi?"
She held up her hands, "You're right. Fuck....let me get the baby dressed. There are a few spots we can hit up. Are you with anybody?"
"Just Liam and Val and I had to get Desmond," I replied.
She bit her lip. "You in that deep with the Russians?"
"I'm not in deep with anything, go get dressed," I said leaning against the counter.
She threw her hands up in defense. Her footsteps almost seemed to pound on the carpet. A headache was forming at the base of my brain and I wanted to scream. I hollered out and asked if she had an Advil, and she directed me to the cabinet above the sink.
I popped three green liquid filled capsules and by that time she was dressed and ready, Lexi was bundled up in a pink coat with fur around the hood.
"Thank you for doing this," I said as we went to step out the door and she seemed hesitant. "What's wrong?"
"I...nothing," she said.
Holding Lexi, I felt bad because it was past her bedtime. She was doing a little yawning but otherwise looked pretty alert. The metallic click of the lock falling into place let me know that we could leave, and I started down the stairs with the baby.
We slipped into the car and heat overwhelmed us. Astrid and Lexi moved to the far back of the vehicle while Des and I stayed in the middle. No one said a word until Val turned in his seat and flipped the light on. His eyes darted from me and into the back.
"Astrid?" he asked.
"Fuck." I heard her mutter under her breath.
I looked between the two of the them in shock.
Was I missing something here?
How did these two know each other?
The mood definitely began to change in the car. Astrid gave a few destinations on where Capone could have been but said nothing further. Once we found Yara, I had some questions for her ass.
