However, my man disagreed. He said painting wasn’t a big deal, and he’d prefer them to be personalized to the children, and yes, he’d love more if I agreed.
He was too good to be true at times. I kept pinching myself to be sure it wasn’t a dream.
He made me fall in love with him more every single day.
With no idea how long Wire might be working and so much for him getting a break for the weekend, we got comfortable.
It was Saturday night. Most, if not all of us, would’ve found our way to the clubhouse at some point anyway.
I was trying to distance myself from what happened to Bones so I wouldn’t stress the babies.
Bones made sure I was seated comfortably, which ended up being on a couch, and I had something to drink.
Man, what I wouldn’t give to have an alcoholic one.
I wasn’t much of a drinker, but once in a while, I liked to have one.
A mixed drink or wine was my preference.
That, too, would have to wait, like riding Bones’ bike until these two came.
I was rubbing my stomach as I thought of it.
Bones was nearby, talking quietly to Twisted.
I looked around the room. It was unbelievable that I’d gained so much in a mere two months.
I had a family. For someone like me, who grew up mostly without one, except for the short time with Vinia, it was overwhelming but good.
Tears gathered as my hormones picked that moment to kick in.
God, I wouldn’t miss the random crying shit.
I was trying to wipe them away without attracting attention, especially from Bones.
If he saw it, he’d be over here hovering.
I thought I was being somewhat stealthy about it and was almost done when Wire came hurrying into the common room.
His expression told us he had something.
Everyone came to attention, and conversations died to nothing. I got up and went to join Bones.
“Did you find something?” Agony asked. It was an automatic response.
Wire sat. He had a laptop with him. He nodded as he tapped on the keyboard.
“I did. This trail cam records, but to review and download it, the person has to do it at the camera. It isn’t Wi-Fi-enabled to send it anywhere.
That’s good because it means the only way the person would know it was found is if they find it gone or see us on the video.
But I can work my magic and erase that section so he doesn’t notice it.
It would take an expert to know if anything had been done to it.
Anyway, here’s your answer,” Wire said as he turned the laptop to face the crowd.
Bones, me, Agony, and Dare were in front of the rest. As I watched, I saw legs coming toward the camera.
As the person got closer, it allowed us to see more of his body until it revealed his head.
Even dressed in hunting camouflage, I recognized Deon.
The thing that surprised me was that there was someone else with him.
Another man walked up behind him, but I didn’t recognize him.
Wire tapped another button, and there was audio.
Hearing Deon’s voice made me stiffen. Bones rubbed his hand across my back.
“ This has to work. If it doesn’t, I don’t know what to do.
She’s still got a few months to go until the brat is born, but I want her under my control before that.
If she’s not and I can’t produce, I’ll… well, you know what that means.
I’ve been sitting out here for hours a day watching, trying to get a chance.
If I can’t snatch her, then I’m killing that fucker, Bones.
Why would the club protect her if he’s out of the picture?
It’ll be easier to grab her that way. I want that bastard dead.
If he hadn’t wiggled his way into the picture, she would’ve still been with me, ” Deon snapped.
“ Just stick to the plan and be vigilant. He or she will give you a chance. When it happens, take it. I’ve got to go.
Call me when it’s done or if you need anything.
You can do this, D. You’re the pro. Remember that ,” the other man said.
They fist-bumped each other. Then the stranger walked off. Deon took up watching the gate.
Wire typed again, and the video jumped forward in time. I didn’t know how far, but we saw Deon react to whatever he saw through his binoculars. Then, he was up and moving fast. Wire stopped it there.
“That last bit was around the time you all left to go shopping in Gatlinburg. I believe he saw you leave, followed you there, and waited for his chance. When he saw Bones, he thought he’d run him over.
I’ve been working on the cameras in that area since you returned.
The car was lying in wait. It entered the parking lot about five minutes after you did and waited the whole time you were there.
The problem is that the driver never got out of the car to let me see his face.
I’d bet money it was Deon, but I can’t say for sure.
The most he did was roll his side window down once and put his hand out the window.
The camera angles don’t capture his face.
” I heard the frustration in Wire’s voice.
“Hell, let us see that,” Bones muttered.
Wire went into another program, and not long after that, we were staring at the restaurant’s parking lot.
We saw the car that tried to kill Bones.
The engine was running. Suddenly, the window came down, and the man’s hand hung out.
He was throwing out a fast-food cup. There was muttering about littering, but my gaze was glued to his hand.
“Wire, can you zoom in at all on his hand?” I asked excitedly.
“Sure, what do you see?” he asked.
“I need to see that ring on his fourth finger,” I said, slightly impatiently.
Wire didn’t take it personally, and he tapped another two keys, and it zoomed in. I gasped.
“What is it?” Bones asked.
“It’s Deon. He was the one driving,” I said confidently.
“How can you be sure? Talk to us,” Agony said.
“I recognize that ring. It’s exactly like the one he wears on that finger. And before you say it could be someone else, what are the odds that another person would have the same ring and cross tattoo as Deon on his third finger?”
There were cries of jubilation.
“Hot damn, we’ve got him,” Dare muttered.
Bones hugged me as he kissed me. When he was done, he smiled at me with pride. “Great job, babe. Thank you.”
“Yeah, great work. With this confirmed, I need us to take a vote. I know this is usually done in church, but the hell with it. Members who agree that Deon Morton attempted to kill our brother and planned to kidnap his old lady and unborn babies, which warrants him to meet his maker, raise your hands. Those opposed, don’t,” Agony directed.
Hands flew in the air. I did a quick scan, and no surprise, every guy voted to rid the world of Deon.
“Then we need to get to planning. Wire, will you dig to see if anything else pops up? I want to know what that man on the trail cam meant by Deon was the expert. That worries me. The rest of us will prepare to pay Deon a final visit very soon. We need to get in and out clean, though, so we need to plan it,” Agony said.
As the excited chatter increased, I prayed that this would be over in a few days and that no one on our side would get hurt.
