Betrayal burns deep, making the past hard to let go.
A betrayal sent Bones out into the world and ultimately into the arms of his beloved club, the Pagan Souls of Cherokee. Many have wondered what is in his past that would make a medical doctor become a biker. His story is one that a rare few knew, and he prefers to keep it that way. He knows he can hide for a while, but the past has a way of catching up to him.
During a club party, the celebration is halted by the shouts of a prospect, running through the compound with a beaten, barely conscious woman in his arms. Bones takes over and works to find out what has happened to the woman. She’s clearly been abused. By whom? Why? Fury mounts in him the more he discovers.
Blythe runs to the one place she can think of when her means of escape lets her down. She’s been living a horrible nightmare for months. Tonight, she escapes, and she’s running as far away as she can. If she’s caught, she’ll end up losing her life. She doesn’t want the Pagans to fight her battle; she just wants them to help her get far away.
As Bones and the Pagans work to keep Blythe safe, take care of the one responsible for her condition, and bring a monster to justice, they have no idea how truly heinous her monster is. And it brings feelings out in Bones that he thought were long dead. Bones and Blythe find a genuine connection of the heart. However, before they can be entirely free and together, his past reaches out to open old wounds. Both their pasts and Blythe’s abuser must be put to rest. And in one case, that means in a very permanent and deadly way.
Two hurt, distrusting individuals are set free to love. Bones will always keep his Firefly.
