Blythe had finally stopped crying. She exhausted herself until she was dead on her feet.
I helped her undress and get into bed. She was sleeping.
Not wanting to leave her alone in case she woke up and needed me, I’d asked Agony if at least he, Dare, and Hulk could meet at my house.
I needed to go over what happened. They agreed and said they’d bring anyone else who could come.
I was in the backyard, pacing. So much for coming back and sharing the news with the entire club. How could something so wonderful change in an instant? My fury and hatred of Deon Morton were growing exponentially. If he were in front of me at this moment, I’d kill him without a thought.
I heard them coming. It wasn’t due to them being excessively loud.
It was the sound of their boots on the ground, which was light for them.
Not a word was being uttered. I waited, and as they came around the corner of the house, I noticed they were in a long line.
I had every member in my yard when the last one joined me.
I was thrilled to have them, though I hated that they had to drop whatever they were doing to come to me.
“Please, have a seat. Drinks are in the fridge over there. I wasn’t expecting so many. Thank you. I hate that I interrupted your evening,” I informed them.
It was good that I filled up the fridge in the barbecue area yesterday. A few grabbed a drink, but others brought one with them. Bodies sat on the grass or patio. Agony, Dare, Hulk, and I were given the chairs at the patio table.
“How’s Blythe?” was Agony’s first question.
“She cried for hours and then finally passed out. She’s sleeping, so we’ll need to keep it down.”
“We told the others what happened, so they’re up to speed as far as the run-in with shithead Morton. The details we didn’t have,” Hulk stated.
“Basically, after the appointment with Dr. Charming, we decided to eat in town and then planned to come home and get everyone together to tell you how it went. We went to Rossi’s and had an amazing dinner.
We were leaving when we ran into Deon coming in.
He saw her belly and started yelling and talking about how I lied and it was his baby.
He said he wouldn’t let her keep him from it.
I made up a lie about us having an affair while they were together, and it was mine, but he didn’t buy it.
Blythe is worried he’ll be granted visitation or custody of the babies.
I can’t let that happen, Agony. I know we said he didn’t do enough to warrant death, but I can’t let that man near my family, ever,” I snarled.
“I get it, Bones, I do. I know it’s hard, but you have to calm yourself so you can think logically. We’re not about to allow Deon to have contact with those babies or Blythe. Before we discuss how to prevent that, may we ask? What were you going to tell us? Or do you want to wait?” Dare asked.
I didn’t want to ruin the surprise, and Blythe was so excited about telling everyone together.
“I want to wait until Blythe and the other ladies are with us. Sorry. It is good news, though. And that makes it worse that we ran into him. There’s something about him that sets off alarms in me.
It’s more than what he did to her. I don’t trust him and think he’s darker than we think. ”
All eyes turned to Wire. “Brother?” Agony asked.
“I’ve been hacked into his phone and emails, which you know.
That’s how we knew he was moving and changing jobs.
I have not dug into him. As long as he left Blythe alone and disappeared, we were done with him.
However, if he’s setting off Bones’ alarms as he says, maybe I should take a deep dive into Deon Morton,” Wire suggested.
Their faces wore various expressions. I was watching Agony.
It was up to him or an officer to do it, though Wire was usually happy to help whenever he could.
If he didn’t, I’d have to find another way to get information.
I didn’t care what it was as long as it allowed me to eliminate Deon.
I wanted to kill him, but if I could drive him away for good, I’d take it.
I got up to pace. Sitting still was making me more antsy.
Suddenly, I heard Agony say, “Do it, Wire.”
Relief hit me. I turned to face him. Agony was watching me. Actually, they all were. “Thank you, Pres. I can’t tell you how happy that makes me. Now I’ve got to figure out how to tell Blythe she can’t work at Treasures. She’s been incredibly happy since she returned this week. I hate to do it.”
“You said that her boss hired a guy. What did you find out about him?” Dare asked Wire.
“Leonidas, aka Leon Mavros, was an exemplary Marine for twenty years. He retired three months ago as a Master Gunnery Sergeant in Marine Force Recon, MARSOC. He has no black marks against him. From what I see, he’s an upstanding guy.
And his record, though redacted a lot, shows he’s seen combat and knows what he’s doing.
If anyone were to keep an eye on Blythe, he’s a great choice,” Wire reported.
“Fuck, if he rode, then I’d say ask him to prospect,” Hulk muttered.
“He does. I found the registration for a bike and a truck in his name,” Wire smirked.
“What’s he like?” Dare asked me.
“I only met him one time, but he seemed okay. Blythe has talked to him a few times and says he’s very alert and polite, and she feels safe with him,” I admitted.
“Before you go and pull her away from work, which will cause a shitstorm, why don’t you talk to him, let him know what went down, and see if he can somehow be closer to her. If she’s anything like Eliana, she’ll go mad not working,” Agony added.
“Same with any of our women. They are independent, and so is Blythe. We can give her what she wants and still keep her safe. If we have to, we’ll add one of the prospects to work with Leon to watch her,” Twisted said.
“I think you should consider it,” Mace said.
I knew the married men were trying to get me to see that I couldn’t put her in a bubble, but it terrified me. What if something were to happen to her and the babies? I hadn’t lied that day I met Leon. Blythe was my life. I loved and was loyal to my club, but she was everything to me.
“Let me talk to Leon and find out what he can do. Then, if I think we need to, we’ll add a prospect.
And as hard as it is, I’ll wait to see what Wire ferrets out on Morton before I do anything.
However, if we have another confrontation with him before Wire finishes, I’ll be paying that fucker another visit,” I warned.
Deon would spend more than a few days in the hospital if I did.
There were nods and mutters of agreement from all of them. With that in play, I sat back down, and we all quietly talked for about twenty minutes before they excused themselves. I went back in to check on Blythe.
