Page 93 of Bluebird
The sunrays suddenly broke away from my face, and I opened my eyes to find Luke peering down at me, with a twinkle in his eye and an amused smile.
“Hey, Blue.”
I pushed myself up in a fluster. “Oh, hey, Luke.”
He stepped back from my rock and began tugging off his t-shirt. My eyes grew wide.
“Air con blew up at the pub today, fucking glad to be home.”
My mouth dropped open when I was confronted with his hard, naked chest, dripping with sweat and radiating manliness. Before I could find my voice, Luke strolled into the water, and immersed himself into the deepest section of the river.
I was still trying to compose my mind and body when he resurfaced.
“You should come in,” he said, shaking the water out of his hair.
I laughed. “No way, the water is freezing.”
“It’s beautiful.”
You’re beautiful, I thought as I happily watched him wade through the water.
I shook my head. “Too cold for me, but then, I’ve been blessed with air con aaaall day,” I teased with a chuckle.
He splashed me and I yelped when the cold water hit my body.
We fell quiet for a moment before Luke spoke. “I haven’t seen you in a few days.”
“I haven’t seen you in a few days.”
Luke pursed his lips and nodded. “Yeah, I know.”
“It’s okay, you know. If you don’t want to do that song. It’s really not a big deal.”
Luke didn’t seem to acknowledge what I said, and proceeded to climb back out of the river after his short dip. He ambled over to my rock and picked up his t-shirt.
“I have the day off tomorrow, could we…hang out?”
I was hypnotised by the beads of water rolling down his chest. “Uh-huh.”
“We’ll talk then, okay? He smirked, noticing my attention was elsewhere.
“Yeah, sounds good,” I replied, snapping out of my embarrassing trance.
He gave me a huge smile that enhanced his incredible dimples, and retreated back down the bush track towards his house. Once Luke was out of sight, I lay back down onto the rock and let out an enormous sigh. If only he knew the effect he had on me.

“So, if we’re going to do this song, I want to rewrite it…with you.” Luke declared, placing a cup of tea down in front of me.
“Can I at least see the lyrics you had originally? I’m sure we could work with—”
“Nope. They’re gone,” he asserted, taking a sip out of his mug.
My mouth dropped open in shock. “What! Why?” I cried, cursing myself for not reading them properly when I had the chance.
He shrugged. “They’re just not relevant anymore.”
My heart dropped, realising just how much his feelings had changed towards me.
