A WEEK AND A HALF LATER…
“ W ow! Look at the drums!” X yelled.
I chuckled as he excitedly watched the band make their way down the street.
They were cutting up in Cove City. It felt like the whole town was shut down to celebrate homecoming.
The game would be tomorrow night, and we planned to attend.
Coach Franklin had promised a winning season, and so far, they had lived up to that.
Azari and I had been celebrating her test results every day all over one another’s bodies.
Although I’d gone back to work, I made time to wear that pussy out regularly.
When I called and told my family, they’d praised God and promised to make a special trip sometime after homecoming to celebrate with us.
Aunt Candace was still here and was beyond excited when we got home with the news.
We’d danced around the house with her, X, and Azari’s parents for nearly an hour.
“Those girls are dancing, Daddy!” X said to Fabian.
He’d chosen to come to the festivities as well, since he wanted to spend time with Xavier. We’d gotten along well so far. Respect was mutual, and I was grateful for that. Things had fallen into place just as they should have. He even ate breakfast with us this morning.
The true surprise came when a float made its way down the street with Noah and Exodus atop it, rapping.
I knew he did this specifically for Xavier.
Noah was in the middle of a tour and still made time to surprise him.
When X saw Exodus, his eyes widened. They got even wider when Exodus said in the mic, “What’s up, X-man! ”
I picked him up and ran to the float for him to shake Exodus’s hand.
People were jealous as hell, but happy for X at the same time.
When we got back over to the family, I noticed Mrs. Justine’s googly eyes and Mr. Terrence’s side-eye.
I could only laugh at their foolishness.
I gave X to Fabian then went to my baby and wrapped my arms around her.
“Did you know they were coming?” she asked wide eyed.
“Of course I did. Look over there,” I said, pointing to the back of the float.
RJ was back there giving us head nods and salutes.
Azari smiled big. We danced right along with everyone else to the song Noah and Exodus had collaborated on and had a wonderful time.
Aunt Candace and Azari were booty bumping each other like they were dance partners.
I could only shake my head and laugh. They’d gotten close during the past two weeks.
When they finished the song, the crowd roared, appreciating the surprise visit from superstars.
We continued to enjoy the parade and caught plenty of candy.
By the time it was over, we were all hungry.
We’d been out here all day, enjoying face painting and other vendors.
X was probably on a sugar rush for nearly two hours after eating all the cotton candy and funnel cake.
We made our way to the SUV after taking our time to get through the crowd of people. X was on Fabian’s shoulders, enjoying the scenery.
“So, Noah got a chef to cater us a meal tonight. Fabian, you’re more than welcome to join us at my condo.”
He nodded. “Sounds great. We definitely need to go shower. What time should we arrive?”
“Seven should be good,” I said as I looked at the time.
Azari kissed X’s cheek and watched them head to Fabian’s car.
When I opened the door for her, she slid inside.
As I walked around to the driver’s side, I could only thank God.
There was no way Azari would have been able to stand up this long had we not gotten her a new prosthesis.
She wouldn’t have even come here had she been on those chemo meds.
I slowly shook my head, in awe of God’s glory.
After opening Aunt Candace’s door and closing it once she was in, I got inside as well. “That was so exciting!” Azari said. “This entire week has been amazing.”
“That it has. It’s definitely been an experience to remember.”
“I’m glad we had this experience together, baby.”
“Keep rocking with a nigga, and we gon’ have plenty more together. I love you, Azari.”
“I love you more, Chozen.”
The End
