N o … it can’t be. He promised me! He promised he would always be there for me. We were supposed to have another movie night. No … No … I can’t believe it. It hurts too much to believe it.
To hell with all of them. She pushed out of Grayson’s arms. Her body ached as she steadied herself on the ground, protesting as she tried to manage on her own on her weak legs.
“You all can go. You can give up. I won’t. I can’t … I need him.” Lita turned her gaze to all the sympathizing eyes around her. They all thought he was dead. She couldn’t help the fury that ignited inside of her.
“You are the Black Ice Pack’s Luna! Right now, they need you. They need you to help them mourn the loss of their alpha,” Nathon commanded with his alpha voice. He was trying to shake his daughter, to get her to understand. Instead, she met him with a challenging gaze.
Oh no, he didn’t just use his alpha voice on me! She already had an alpha. He was her mate, and he was out there somewhere. He had to be. They had two boys waiting for him to come home and a daughter he still needed to meet.
“Lita, for how long? How long do you need to search before you’ll understand? Staying here and searching what can’t be searched for won’t change anything.” Nathon softened his voice, trying to reason with her.
“So … you’re telling me that Abaas took his body?” Lita glared at her father as she watched him nod his head.
“Then I’m going into the depths of hell to bring it back.” Lita narrowed her eyes at her father as he shook his head.
“You can’t. You can’t go there. You’ll never get out. They’ll keep you there.” Nathon adamantly refused her. She couldn’t go there.
“What if they took Asher alive?!” Lita gasped, wondering if that was exactly what had happened.
Nathon was quiet, his gaze resting on her sadly. “If they have him there, then he’s theirs now.”
“Would this be your answer if they had taken me?!” Lita growled back.
“Yes. There would be no saving you from there,” Alice answered quietly.
Lita smirked. Asher would go there for her. She knew he would. “I’m not like you. Any of you. I don’t care where I have to go or what opponent I have to face. If Asher is there, then I’m going after him.”
“In your condition?! What can you do? You can’t do anything!” Nathon yelled angrily at his stubborn daughter.
“You guys are awfully quiet. What are you thinking? Thinking of abandoning Asher too?” Lita snapped at Grayson, Caden and Caspian.
“I’d never abandon Asher. NEVER! This … this is different, Lita. The Black Ice Pack needs you. You have to come back to them.” Caden quieted his tone toward the end.
“If Asher thought I had been taken, what would he do?” Lita raised her eyes at Caden. She knew damn well what Asher would do. He would try to come for her.
“Lita, there is no way Asher would have been taken alive. There would have been signs of a struggle,” Caspian said softly.
“Grayson?” Lita’s voice was a defeated whisper.
He stared at her. He couldn’t just give up on Asher either. Even if it was hopeless. He would walk into hell if it meant retrieving his body to put him to rest.
“I’ll follow you. Wherever you go. I’ll go and retrieve his body so that he can rest in peace. But I want you to stay here. I can’t lose you both.” Grayson meant it. He might not return from the demon’s lair, but he would give his life trying.
Thank goodness she had Grayson.
“Caden, I order you to return to the Black Ice Pack and perform the duties as alpha in charge. Caspian, you can return to your mate’s side until you both can join the Black Ice Pack.
” Lita looked at the two men, who looked uneasy and didn’t move.
“GO!” Lita boomed her luna voice at them, forcing them to obey her.
“Lita …” Alice started.
“Mom, you need to trust me. Asher and I have a destiny. I refuse to believe this was all we were meant to do. My body may be weak, but I’m going to push it. I wasn’t born with all this power for nothing.” Lita set a determined gaze on Grayson. She had an idea.
“Caden, Caspian … wait before leaving.” Lita saw the two stop and wait.
Mira, we’re still connected to Bo, aren’t we? Just because we can’t feel him … it would be different if he was dead, right?
HE’S NOT DEAD! Mira growled back loudly. Lita had Mira on her side, too. Then let’s find him.
Seraphina, I need you to lend me your strength. She heard her screech in approval. She was going to try something. She was going to use her magic to find him. He was her mate, no, her soulmate. That meant their souls were connected. She was going to try to find him through their souls’ connection.
“Grayson, I need to borrow your strength. Mom, yours too.” Lita reached out and held onto both Grayson and her mother. Her mother was the key. The two of them together could unleash extraordinary abilities. Now that she was there, she could try what she had been hoping to try.
Alice didn’t hesitate. If there was some way her power could help her daughter, then she would give it to her.
Lita closed her eyes, drawing power from Grayson, from her mother, from Mira, and from Seraphina.
She connected it to herself, linking it to her soul, the soul that should be connected to Asher.
It was quiet, though. She didn’t like how quiet it was.
They were going to hate her for what she was going to do next.
She didn’t care, though. She didn’t care if this would be her end.
She would go to Asher. In a brilliant flash, she was gone.
Alice stood there blinking before cupping her hand over her mouth. “Oh no … Oh no!”
“She used our strength to teleport herself to his body,” Grayson growled angrily. He couldn’t lose them both, and she had disappeared where he couldn’t follow. He fell to his knees and grasped at the ground. This was too much for him to bear.
She saw a dark blue hue. She was in a cave.
She could hear the soft trickling of water as it dripped into some sort of pond.
Where was she? Asher … He should be here.
She had teleported to him. She pulled her wolf senses forward in order to see in the dark.
There, in the distance, she could see a body in dark blue clothes, lying up against the stone wall.
Her breath caught in her throat. She could smell him, but more importantly, she could hear him.
She could hear his breath. She mustered her strength to go to his side.
Collapsing on her knees beside him, she pressed her hands on him and rolled him over.
He looked fine. Her movements must have startled him, though.
He recoiled, staring at her. She watched as he raised a shaky hand up to her face.
He looked shocked to see it make contact with her.
“Lita? You’re really here?” Asher’s voice croaked out.
“Asher!” Lita swung her arms around him as his crashed around her.
She started sobbing. The sobs that she wouldn’t let come before.
The sadness from thinking she may have lost him.
“They all said you were dead. I wouldn’t quit looking for you, though.
They tried to make me. I knew you weren’t dead.
I couldn’t feel you. I couldn’t mindlink you… ”
“Shhh … baby, I’m okay. You’re okay. I’ve been so worried about you.
I couldn’t get back to you. I’ve been sick wondering how you’ve been.
How you managed in the fight, and then how you were holding up without me near you.
I’ve been a mental wreck. I guess we were too far apart to be able to mindlink and feel the other.
Thank goodness you’re okay.” He planted soft kisses all over her tear-soaked face.
She sighed as her energy quickly replenished and the pain vanished.
“Where is this place?” Lita asked, looking around, wiping her eyes. How far away was he if they couldn’t sense each other?
“It’s underwater. When I went over the falls, I was dragged under.
I was pulled and then left in this cave by a siren.
There were clothes lying in the cave, so I found some that fit and threw them on.
Not sure who they belonged to before … but we’re completely underwater in a cave.
I can’t find my way out. I’ve tried. For some reason, the siren keeps stopping me from leaving. ”
“Is that so? Pfft. Sounds like she was trying to keep you for herself.” Lita crawled over to the water, muttering angry words under her breath.
“Lita, what are you doing?” Asher asked in concern.
“Calling for reinforcements.” Lita dipped her head into the water and yelled “ROWAN.” Her muffled, watery shout hardly made any noise, but she knew he would hear her. She then lifted her head back out of the water.
They heard the loud sound of water splashing and falling onto rocks, and there in front of them stood Rowan. He shifted into his human form and a huge grin spread across his face.
“Hot damn, you found him, Lita! Atta girl!” Rowan walked up and lifted Asher to his feet, embracing him in an awkward hug. Everyone thought he was dead, so this reaction was natural for them. Asher, on the other hand, had only met this guy once.
“He said a siren has been keeping him here,” Lita’s irritated voice rang out. Because of this siren, she had suffered for days.
Rowan’s eyes turned black. Black as night. There was no color in them as he turned an icy gaze toward Lita. “Is that so? So she thought she could keep the fairy prince here as her personal toy? Well, well, well. She is about to learn the hard way what happens when you cross a kelpie.”
“When did you guys get so close?” Asher chuckled nervously at the horse’s ominous aura.
“Rowan and his mate Liza came to our aid. They helped fight off the imps and wolves. They’ve been searching for you tirelessly since then.
” A thought crossed Lita’s mind, and she smiled sheepishly.
“It’s a good thing I found you this way.
I was getting ready to walk into hell, thinking Abaas took you. ”
“WHAT?!” Asher and Rowan both yelled.
Lita grinned and shrugged. “I don’t give a damn where I’d have to go. If you have my mate, I’m coming for you, no matter where that would lead me. Grayson was going to come too. He hadn’t given up either.”
“Geez, Lita. Never ever just be willing to walk into demon hands.” Asher rubbed his forehead. She almost went into danger thinking he was there.
“How did you get here?” Rowan looked at Lita in confusion.
“I teleported. I borrowed some power from my mom and Grayson, and I used my link with Asher to teleport to wherever his body was.” Lita walked up to Asher and felt his arms circle her. “I wasn’t sure if it would work, but I had to try to get to him.”
“Don’t do that ever again. If I’m in danger, I don’t want you coming to me.
” Asher scolded her, though inwardly he was glad she was there.
He wasn’t sure how he was going to make it out of there.
The only escape he could find was underwater, and every time he tried, the siren ended up showing up.
He could only hold his breath for so long. He was trapped.
“Oh … so if I was in danger, you wouldn’t come for me?” Lita looked up at him with a smile. She already knew what the answer to that was.
He grinned down at her and kissed her forehead. He knew he would scale the cliffs of hell to protect her. “Okay, Rowan, can you get us out of here?”
