T he next morning, Garrett and Kristen were out making rounds among the pack members. They were checking on everyone, letting them know they would be in charge of the pack soon. It was a simple gesture to help get everyone comfortable with the idea.

Grayson, Lita, and Asher were eating breakfast when Caden came down with Rosa. She looked at them a bit shyly as she took a seat across from them.

“Welcome to our pack.” Lita could see the new mate mark on Rosa’s neck. Caden wasted no time with that.

“It’s a bit surreal to be in a pack and to have your fairy princess also be here. It’s intense.” Rosa was a bit of a fangirl when it came to the fairy royals. She had always dreamed of meeting them, and her gushing heart wouldn’t slow down in their presence.

“Rosa, have you blessed Caden with a fairy kin ability yet?” Lita sipped her coffee as she looked at her.

“I … I didn’t know if I could do that. Isn’t that forbidden?” Rosa didn’t want to break any rules, especially not in front of the royals.

“Not if it’s your mate,” Caspian chimed in as he took his place in an empty chair.

“That will be helpful for our trip, too.” Asher figured if Caden could see what they could, he would be more useful.

“What trip?” Rosa asked as she glanced over at Caden.

“We’re traveling to Elysia.” Caden watched Rosa’s eyes light up, and she squealed.

“Can I come too? My father and I always planned to visit there, but we hadn’t managed it yet. Or would it be a problem?” Rosa looked at Lita with almost pleading eyes.

“I don’t see why it would be an issue, but you should know that it may be dangerous. I have a demon that’s after me. There are no guarantees that we’ll make it there without any issues,” Lita said, wanting to be forthright with her about their journey.

“Even more reason for me to come, then. I can help keep you safe, if there’s any danger to you.” Rosa looked at Lita with confidence.

“I would prefer it if you didn’t fight,” Caden said quietly, already overly protective of his mate. It was a werewolf thing.

“Caden, keeping the princess safe is the highest priority. If it's for her, then I will do what I can to protect her.” Rosa thought it was sweet of him to be protective of her, but it was impractical. There was only one princess. Her life was the most important.

“What are your abilities, wood fairy?” Grayson crunched on a big piece of bacon as he looked at her.

“It’s not much, but I can inhibit senses.

I can momentarily cause blindness and deafness.

I can’t hold it for long. It’s really more of an escape mechanism than a combat one.

Still, it can be useful.” Rosa knew she couldn’t do much, but it was at least something.

It could even help with the element of surprise.

“A wood fairy?” Caden asked curiously.

“That’s just a broad category. There are different types of fairies.

A wood fairy is similar to what humans consider elves.

Usually, you don’t just say wood fairy, since I do have a name.

” Rosa smiled weakly as she looked at Grayson.

It was a bit rude of him to call her wood fairy, but at the same time, she wasn’t going to fight him over it.

“Grayson, Rosa is part of our pack now. You can lower your guard some and use her name when talking to her.” Lita winked at him. She watched him give a slight nod of acknowledgement. She knew he wouldn’t be willing to trust her just yet. She would have to prove herself loyal and trustworthy.

“So, when’s the big day?” Caden asked, since he was a bit preoccupied yesterday and didn’t get to hear what they’d decided. They all knew he was going to propose to her, though, and that she would say yes.

“After we come back from Elysia.” Asher looked at Lita and placed his hand over hers. “We’ll be leaving next week. We’re traveling part of the way by vehicle and then walking the rest. Make sure you’re all ready and prepared for the trip. I want everything to go as smoothly as possible.”

“So this is what I haven’t been able to see!” Caden was looking at a brownie that Grayson had allowed to enter the house.

“We haven’t seen them much, either. Grayson keeps them away,” Lita said with a small pout.

Rosa held onto Caden’s hand and smiled as she watched him marvel at the creature. She had shared her gift with him, and they both felt a deeper sense of connection because of it.

“I wonder what Elysia looks like,” Rosa quietly whispered out loud.

“It’s quite a sight to behold. Elysia is right next to the West Dragon Kingdom, so there are often dragons visiting, but they’re usually in their human forms.” It had been a long time since Grayson was there, but he had vivid memories of the place.

“Wait wait wait … you’re telling me that dragons are like werewolves? As in they shift into their form?” Caden asked with wide eyes.

“Not quite. Werewolves come from the moon goddess. You have another consciousness inside of you. Dragons, like me, do not have another consciousness. Also, dragons are a reverse transformation. Werebears were humans who shifted into bears. Dragons are dragons that shifted into humans. There are four kingdoms in the dragon realm. Each is ruled by their royalty, and then there is the Great Dragon Sage. Dragons are very powerful, but they aren’t helpful to anyone but themselves.

They only care about dragons. Their preservation is all that matters to them.

They’re arrogant, hot tempered, and selfish.

I don’t care much for their egotistical attitudes.

” Grayson snuffed air out of his nose as his irritation rose.

Fairies and Dragons were allies, but that only meant they didn’t fight with each other.

If fairies were in danger, the dragons wouldn’t send them aid.

The fairies would aid them, though. It wasn’t a fair trade-off.

“So, you’re saying that dragons think they’re better than everyone else.” Caden felt some of the air deflate from his love for dragons. “Well, I guess Asher and Lita have their work cut out for them.”

Grayson let out an airy laugh. “Yeah, I wouldn’t hold my breath. It’s been that way since the beginning. No fairy queen has been able to change that relationship. Just be happy they aren’t aggressive toward fairies. You don’t want to be on a dragon’s bad side.”

Lita listened thoughtfully to what Grayson was saying. She hoped maybe one day things would be different. If there was anything she could do to make that happen, then she would surely try. First things first, though, and that was to finally reunite with her mother in Elysia.

Lita’s phone rang. “Hey Drew!”

“Leet, I got a letter from dad in the mail today, with no return address. He said that he was very proud of the people we’ve become, but that he’ll be staying with his mate. He hoped we would understand, and he promised to check in from time to time.”

Lita took in a breath and thought quietly for a moment. “I can’t imagine how hard it has been for him to stay away from his mate. I’m glad he’s finally doing something for himself. I’m traveling to Elysia next week. I’ll let you know how he’s doing.”

“Thanks, Lita. Please, be safe. I love you … always.”

“I love you, too, Drew. I’ll talk to you soon.” Lita hung up the phone and looked at Asher, who nodded in agreement.

“After all, he is the fairy king, right?” Asher knew that if he was separated from Lita, he would join her as well.

"As long as he accepted, and I don’t see why he wouldn’t have. I guess he's shaking up the fairy kingdom, being the first werewolf as their reigning king.” Lita listened as Asher laughed.

“And then after him will be me. The fairy kingdom will be run by werewolves.” He shrugged as he read Lita’s mind.

She was wondering why the werewolves no longer had a king.

Once upon a time, they were ruled by lycans, but they were no longer in existence.

“The Alpha King vanished from existence some time ago. It was said that the title was a gift from the Moon Goddess. Once it was no longer needed, she didn’t create another. ”

Who knows? If a war was coming, then maybe an alpha king would once again rise to lead. Lita wondered who it would be and from which pack.
