“Lita.”
A gentle voice called to her in the depths of her mind.
Lita opened her eyes. She was standing in a green meadow that was filled with flowers.
The sky was the brightest blue she’d ever seen, and the sun was shining in all its brilliance.
Where was she? In the distance, she saw someone walking toward her.
She knew this person. It was her mother.
“Lita.” Her mother’s voice was warm and gentle. Her bright pale hair was almost white. It shone like silver in the sun, and the wind played with the ends of her strands.
“Mom? Where am I?” Lita asked. Wait … was she dead?
“This is Elysia. Well, this is the dream state of Elysia. I was able to bring you here so we could talk. It takes a big toll on me, so it isn’t something I can do often or for long, but I needed to help you.” Her mother fixed her gaze on her daughter with a look of urgency.
“Help me? How can you help me in a dream? And help me how?”
“Lita, we’re healers. It’s one of our powers that has been passed down over countless generations. It takes a long time to learn and develop our healing power, but I can help you discover just enough so that you can recover.”
“Am I in that bad of shape?” Lita knew her injuries were serious, but with her werewolf healing, she didn’t think it was life-threatening.
“You’ve lost a lot of blood, and we shouldn’t risk it since we don’t have to.
I want you to focus. Focus on the warm, yellow light inside yourself.
As you do, feel for the wave you want to connect with, let it wash over you.
It should feel soothing and energizing. Let it flow over your body.
Once you do this, you’ll wake up from this dream state.
Lita, you must make the journey to Elysia.
Not immediately, but very soon. You need to gather a strong escort that can protect you from Abaas.
There’s a lot we have to talk about, and there is a job that you must do.
Your guardian will be able to lead you here.
Now … focus on that light,” Lita’s mother gently commanded.
Lita concentrated on the warm energy inside her and searched for the glow that felt soothing and energizing. She let the warmth spread over her body and felt herself drifting out of the dream state. As she regained consciousness, she heard her mother whisper, “I love you.”
When Lita woke up, she was back in her bed in the pack house.
She was lying between Asher’s legs, her head resting on his thigh.
He was rubbing her arms gently and soothingly with his hands.
His scent filled her nostrils, and she took in her personal hits of him, her intoxicating drug.
His well-defined arms, strong thighs, heavenly smile—
“You’re barely recovering. What do you think you’re thinking about?” Asher said in a low whisper.
Lita turned her head to look up at him. She smiled when she saw the concern on his face. He’d been worrying about her. She shifted to sit up so she could hug him.
“Easy, Lita.” Asher was worried that she might reopen her wounds.
“Were you not able to read my mind while I was dreaming?” Lita thought he would already know what had happened in her subconsciousness.
“No, everything was blank. It was like you weren’t there.” His voice hitched a bit, recovering from how worried he had been.
“I’m sorry for worrying you. How long was I unconscious?”
“Just a couple of hours.”
Lita nodded her head and shifted herself around as she sat up.
“Asher, it’s okay. I think everything’s healed.” Lita lifted up her shirt and checked where the wounds had been. They were no longer there.
“How are you completely healed?” Asher asked as he gently touched her repaired skin.
“Wait … how’s Caspian?!” Lita asked with wide eyes.
She wanted to make sure he was doing okay and was consumed by an overwhelming desire to see him.
Her heart pounded in her ears as she frantically scanned the room for any sign of him.
The wounds he had sustained were grave, and the thought of losing him was unbearable.
“Caspian’s going to be okay. He’s been moved back here and is resting in his room. Now, how are you all healed up?” Asher gently tilted her chin up to his gaze so he could look into her eyes.
“It’s one of my powers. My mother came to me in my subconscious and told me how to use it. She also said that I need to go to Elysia soon. We’ll have to prepare for the journey and be ready for potential attacks, but I have to go.”
Asher frowned at this news. “I don’t want you traveling outside the pack with that demon after you.” He saw the change in her eyes. “We know exactly what he wants now.”
“I know. Me. He wants me as a replacement for my mother.” Lita heard the loud, throaty growl Asher made as he scowled. “Abaas wants to gain entry to the fairy kingdom, and he wants to attain this through a blood tie to the kingdom.”
“I can’t believe Felicia. Brody would be so disappointed in her.
Or maybe … maybe he knew.” Asher shook his head.
He couldn’t think about that right now. “How can we travel to Elysia knowing Abaas is after you? It’s too risky.
” Asher leaned in and kissed her forehead tenderly.
He knew he was going to have to take her there, but he still had to voice his objections to the idea.
It was dangerous. He couldn’t lose her, and he almost did.
They had tried to weaken her enough so they could take her, and they had succeeded.
If he hadn’t arrived when he did, she might be in that demon’s clutches right now.
“I have some ideas about traveling. We’ll need to speak with Grayson to see how long the trip will take us and how to get there.
We have to go. There’s something important that my mom needs to talk to me about.
Either something I have to know or do, but it’s important.
She said we didn’t have to leave right away, so we do have time to prepare.
Besides, I don’t think Abaas will attack again anytime soon.
He’ll need a plan. He might not have been bothered by the flames, but the others were.
And with you and Grayson around, he won’t get his way.
” Lita leaned up and kissed Asher’s jawline.
Asher sighed and tilted his head, resting his forehead on hers. “We’ll work it out, Lita. If it’s this important, we’ll make it happen. Now, since you seem fine, how about you get a quick shower and go see Caspian.”
Lita flashed him a wide grin and kissed his cheek. “Give me five minutes!”
Asher watched her quickly skid off to the shower before he left the room. He would talk to Grayson and get an idea of how far and long this trip would be. He would have to make pack arrangements for the time he would be away, too. At least he had some time to get everything sorted out.
Lita ran down the stairs after the shower, with Asher right behind her, grabbing her by the wrist. “Slow down.” He chuckled.
Caden and Grayson were standing in the kitchen as the two walked in.
“Caspian is resting now. I stayed with him until he fell asleep, and Kristen is sitting with him now. He’s doing good. In a couple of days, he’ll be as good as new.” Caden updated Lita so that she didn’t worry about him.
“Aww, I wanted to see him. I guess I can wait until he wakes up. I can’t wait to yell at him. He was almost killed because he charged into that mess—”
“He saved you, Lita. If he hadn’t shown up, you would have been captured before I could get to you.
” Asher couldn’t help the pain in his chest when he remembered how she looked with wounds all over her body.
She couldn’t have fought much longer. “I know he won’t kill you, but the idea of even allowing you to get hurt—” Asher snorted as his anger rose.
Grayson’s eyes narrowed, and he looked back at Lita.
“When he couldn’t get to your mom, he decided to try next with you.
You know, he wouldn’t be interested in you if you were pregnant.
” He smirked and eyed the two in front of him.
Asher seemed on board with this idea, too.
“He only wants you because you haven’t given birth yet. ”
“Right, so he wouldn’t want me, but he would want my daughter to fulfill the same purpose.
I don’t know how long his lifespan is, but it needs to be cut short.
We need to find him and kill him. I don’t want my descendants to always have to watch their backs.
I’m strong, and I have strong allies. If there’s a good time to kill him, it’s now. ”
“I’m all for killing him.” Asher grinned and shrugged, looking at Grayson and Caden.
“So, we’ll kill him after we visit my mother, or on the way if the opportunity presents itself.” Lita smiled. “So, how do we get to Elysia, and how long will it take?” She looked at Grayson expectantly, as did everyone else. They all quietly waited for his response.
