It took some time to adjust, but the pack finally settled down and got used to having the centaurs around.

Grayson set up firm boundaries and was in charge of setting up their patrols to coincide with the pack’s.

Sparring was going well, and Lita had adapted to her new fire skill.

She found that it wasn’t difficult to communicate with Seraphina. It was almost like another mindlink.

Asher and Grayson took their training to the next level.

It was more intense and rough as Asher pushed himself and tested his limits.

He was trying to bring about his new, hidden powers.

They had switched to the lower training arena, since the other one was now being used as a home for the centaurs.

Lita was sitting in the bleachers, watching Asher and Grayson spar in their human forms. It was important to practice and train in every way possible.

Lita couldn't help but watch Asher's body as it glistened with sweat.

He was mouthwateringly gorgeous, with his well-chiseled chest and bulging, defined arms. Her lustful thoughts drifted to thinking about his body in bed and how those same, powerful arms held her so tenderly and preciously.

Her licentious thoughts finally faded as she noticed the two had stopped fighting.

Asher was staring at her, eyes dark, looking her over as if she were a little lamb.

You keep thinking like that and I’m not going to be able to keep fighting. I can’t concentrate with those thoughts popping up in my head. I’ll gladly oblige your needs. He was staring at her, a smug smile resting on his face.

Ugh, caught by the soulmate link again. This had become a recurring problem. Well, it wasn’t really a problem. She was incredibly turned on when she caught him lusting after her, and then, when they were being intimate … She stopped herself again from taking those thoughts any deeper.

Crimson stained her cheeks and she looked away. Keep on sparring. I can control myself … okay, maybe not.

“Caspian, why don’t you come over and experiment a little?” Lita heard Asher chuckle, but he returned his attention to Grayson as Caspian sat next to her.

“Okay Caspian, just for curiosity’s sake, we need to see if you’re able to use a mental barrier on me.

You don’t have to block all aspects, but let’s see if you can do just enough that could block the soulmate thought link.

If it’s going to hurt too bad, then don’t do it.

” Lita looked at Caspian, who smiled at her gently.

“It shouldn’t hurt me. The reason it hurt before was because I was blocking all of you.

I was making your presence invisible. Let’s see what I can do.

” Caspian sat in front of Lita and stared into her emerald pools.

He looked deep inside, trying to find a link he could use to ground his magic in.

As he was staring, a glow came forward through her green orbs.

A flaming bird peered back at him. He quickly pulled back and let out a shallow breath.

“You better talk to Seraphina first. I think she’s going to light me on fire if I continue.” Caspian chuckled nervously. Seraphina was staring back at him with murderous intent, and his heart froze.

“Oh, okay.” Lita drifted into her consciousness. It was actually a very neat experience. She could meet with Mira in the depths of her mind, and she was also able to see Seraphina, who visited periodically.

Seraphina, I was going to have my friend put up a mild barrier to prevent my thoughts from entering my mate’s head. It would be temporary, just to see if we can. This way, in the future, I can still surprise him.

It isn’t a good idea. You two are linked for a reason.

You need to be able to know the moment either of you are in danger so that you can go to the other.

You are strongest when you are together.

You weren’t just blessed as soulmates randomly.

This was intentional. Seraphina’s light flickered in and out as the flames danced around her.

You’re saying that us being soulmates was planned? Is it because I’m the fairy queen’s daughter and the alpha’s daughter, and I’m mated to an alpha? I don’t understand.

It’s because of the destiny you hold. Your mother knows of your future legacy.

She has the power of premonition. You’ll need to talk to her about it, as I’m not permitted to give away the future.

He can do the barrier, but it shouldn’t be done often.

Only on very rare occasions . Seraphina vanished, and Lita snapped back into reality.

Despite having received permission, Seraphina’s words weighed heavily on Lita’s mind.

What exactly did their future hold? She couldn’t shake off the uneasy feeling that came with it.

Lita was no fool; she understood the gravity of the situation.

Seraphina had suggested that they were connected for a reason, and that their powers were strongest when used together.

Their fates seemed to be intertwined, and her mother held more information about it.

It was crucial for Lita to make the journey to Elysia soon, not only to see her mother, but also to learn what secrets she possessed.

Seraphina had previously mentioned that they were destined to bring peace to the world.

That her bloodline would be hunted down.

It was a daunting responsibility for Lita to bear.

Lita felt Asher’s arms wrap around her from behind. She snapped out of her thoughts and looked up at him. He looked at her with a small smile … the soulmate link again. He could feel her mild distress and had already accessed the reason from her own thoughts.

“What’s wrong, Lita?” Grayson plopped down and shoved an apple in his mouth.

Lita smiled and just shrugged. She really didn’t know what was wrong, if anything. She was suddenly putting everything together, and she realized there was a heavy burden on her shoulders—and on her future relatives.

“I was just thinking about the things Seraphina has said. Like how Asher and I being soulmates was planned, and that we’re strongest when we’re together.” Lita looked at the two men but was assessing Grayson’s face. He seemed to be deep in thought about something again, and he wasn’t sharing.

“Grayson, what are you thinking?” Asher asked the question that was on Lita’s mind for her.

He squeezed Lita’s arm and pulled her deeper into his embrace.

They had been destined to be together. To him, that sounded amazing.

It meant that the connection between them wasn’t fleeting but eternal.

Eternity with Lita was something he loved the sound of.

“You know, for a deity to get involved, it means the fight must be against demons or maybe even other deities.” Grayson looked at Lita and let out a small breath.

“The wolf you saw that attacked your mother … he’s half demon and half werewolf.

I wonder if this is all connected. Could this be the seeds of a battle with the demon realm?

A battle against demons … I mean, we would need to have one of the strongest alliances around for that.

We would need more than just fairies and werewolves to unite, which is where my next thought comes in.

This big thing that’s going to happen … we might need all the species to unite.

The deities are going to help us in a war we have no business being in.

Gah, I don’t know. Man, if it is demons we’ll have to fight, maybe we should up our training.

Those things are disgusting and dirty. They have so many nasty tricks up their sleeves.

And then there are original demons … they’re like deities only on the dark side.

Powerful. There’s no way we could defeat an original demon.

Only a tier-one deity could fight on par with one. ”

The three stared at Grayson quietly as they mulled over their own thoughts. The idea that they may be smack dab in the middle of a very dangerous war was a bit numbing for a moment.

“If you are meant to bring peace to the world, it won’t be without a war.

And a war will mean sacrifices and death.

” Grayson looked up at the clouds. Why did his charge have to be tasked with such a burden?

She was such a sweet and kind soul. She shouldn’t have to see the cruelty of war or suffer the loss of her loved ones. This was selfish of the gods.

“So, what you’re saying is that we’re kind of a big deal,” Asher said with a smirk on his face that made them all laugh.

“Seriously, though, I don’t give a damn about what we’ll have to fight in the future.

We’ll destroy anyone who stands against us.

Anyone after Lita or my family is signing their death certificate.

We’ll train and be prepared to take out any threats, no matter who or what they are. ”

Grayson grinned and nodded his head. Asher was right. That was the best mentality to have. “Now that’s hot, Asher. No wonder Lita keeps daydreaming about you.” He let a sly grin spread over his lips as he watched Lita turn a shade of purple.

Grayson would protect them with his life, no matter what dangers lie ahead of them.

Lita and Asher were his family. Over the last several weeks, the two men had bonded.

They were closer than friends. They were family, and they trusted each other with their lives, which was a good thing because they would need to do that in the future.

If the gods were dragging them into a war, then he would just have to work harder to protect them.

He would be their sword and their shield.

And if necessary, he would gladly lay his life down for theirs.

“Abaas, we have studied their patrols. The pack is well guarded by wolves and centaurs.” A man lowered his head, flinching as Abaas growled.

This wasn’t good. The centaurs were powerful enough on their own, let alone accompanied by werewolf warriors.

And he knew Black Ice Pack had the strongest warriors around.

He had encountered them before and knew that he didn’t have enough warriors.

If only he could convince his half-brother to join in on the battle, but that was a fragile relationship.

He would need help from his father for that.

His father was not the type of demon who cared about either of his sons. Still, Abaas was desperate.

“When are you going to get rid of her?! I want to go home and be back with Asher!”

Abaas eyes snapped toward the annoying woman.

He was tempted to kill Felicia now, but maybe he could use her.

He stared down at the ground and furrowed his brows.

She was a member of the pack and was trusted among them.

Could she be the key to getting the pack to drop their guard?

His eyes widened as a grin spread over his lips.

That was it. This half-twit of a creature could be of use to him.

He rolled his shoulders, cracking his neck before he settled his gaze on Felicia. He pulled out a knife and headed toward her.

“What are you doing?” Felicia shrieked as a cruel smile spread over Abaas’ lips.

“This is going to hurt … baaaad.”
