“That’sallyou came to tell me?”
Felix shifted his weight, his hand still on the door. “It was difficult enough for me to come here and say that much. Don’t make me drag this out …” His eyes rose heavenwards. “Just don’t let your pride get in the way of something great … trust me when I say it’s not worth it.” He was out of the door before Kit could say anything.
All he could do was stare after Felix as he disappeared into the misty rain.
He checked his watch and felt a pang of annoyance that Seren would still be at work.
CHAPTERTHIRTY-FOUR
Seren left work half an hour early to avoid seeing Noah when he arrived for his shift. It was petty, but she just couldn’t face him. She was also hyped up on adrenaline at the thought of paying Kit a visit. He’d had enough time to calm down, and she was determined for them to smooth things over.
Instead of going straight over to his place she made a stop at home to pick up a peace offering. She’d take all the help she could get.
Opening her front door to face the elements again, she almost collided with Kit. She backed up quickly and they huddled inside.
“Were you going somewhere important?” he asked, rain dripping from his hair despite his hood.
“No.” She shook her head. “I mean, yes. I was going to see you. Come up,” she said, setting off up the stairs.
“How are you doing?” he asked, hanging his dripping coat inside the door.
“Fine.” Anger came unexpectedly and she glared at him. “I’m a bit pissed off, if I’m honest.”
“With me?” He swallowed hard, which only fuelled her outburst.
“Yes, with you! I don’t care how annoyed you are, it’s rude of you to ignore my messages and calls.”
“Is that what you were coming to tell me?”
“No.” She sighed and shoved her gift bag at him. “Here.”
He peered in at the Harry Potter books. The ones he hadn’t read yet. “Are there bookmarks in here as well?”
Her lips drew to a smile. “I thought you could use the ticket from Warner Brothers Studio.”
“I don’t want to ruin my keepsake.”
“But you’re fine with ruining books? What’s wrong with you?” She caught the teasing in his eyes and suppressed a laugh.
“I promise to use a bookmark,” he said with a cheeky grin. “Were you coming over just to bring me books?”
She moved around the coffee table and took a seat on the couch. “I also wanted to tell you again that there’s nothing going on between me and Felix.”
“I know,” he said softly.
“That’s good.” She was slightly taken aback. “I was hoping we could sort things out … but I’m not actually sure how.”
Kit set the bag on the table and sat beside her, his body angled to face her. “I’ve spent so long hoping that there might be something between us one day, but I never really believed it until Friday. So when I heard that you’d kissed Felix, I felt like such an idiot for thinking you’d ever want to be with me.”
“I do want to be with you,” she whispered, reaching for his hand. “I should have told you the truth about Felix from the start.”
He interlaced his fingers with hers. “Do you remember the time I came over and told you I was in love with you?”
She couldn’t help but smile. “I have guys coming over all the time to tell me they’re in love with me … but yeah I think I recall it.”
“Someone pointed out that it might have been a better approach to ask you on a date.” He quirked an eyebrow. “Or maybe just kiss you …”
She felt heat flash in her cheeks. “That might have been a good idea …” When he leaned slowly towards her, she put a hand in the middle of his chest.
