“Yes. Stop being stubborn.”
“She kissed Felix,” he told her.
“I know.”
His eyebrows rose. “She told you that?”
“Yes. Actually she said he kissed her. Though I don’t think it matters much.”
“Her kissing another guy doesn’t matter? I should be fine with that?”
“If it makes her realise she’s kissing the wrong guy, then yes you should be fine with it. She doesn’t want to be with Felix. She wants to be with you.”
He took another bite of his sandwich, refusing to let the conversation ruin his lunch. “She lied to me.”
“And she feels terrible. Get over it.”
“You could be on my side, you know.” Though if he was honest, he was kind of glad she was taking Seren’s side.
“There are too many men in our family. Us girls have to stick together.” Mirren pursed her lips. “Besides, you’re being an idiot.”
“Thanks!”
“You’ll sort things out with her, won’t you?”
He exhaled loudly. “It’sSeren. It’s not like I’m never going to speak to her again. We’ll sort things out one way or another. I just need time to get my thoughts in order.” With his mum seemingly placated, he ate a few mouthfuls of soup. “Do you have any of our old toys in the attic?” he asked when he reached the bottom of the bowl.
“Probably. There’s all sorts of junk up there. Why?”
“I thought I’d see if I can find anything for the girl in Trystan’s cottage. She’s bored out of her mind.”
“That’s a good idea. Go up and have a look. I reckon there’s a big box of Lego somewhere. That might keep her entertained for a while.”
After a bit of digging around, Kit found a box of Lego and dropped it off with two very grateful guests before setting off home. As he made a dash from his mum’s car to his building, he registered the figure on the doorstep, dressed in black with a hood up.
“Can I help you?” he asked automatically as he put his key in the door.
“I was looking for you, actually.”
Kit tensed as he registered it was Felix. “What do you want?”
“Mind if I come in? It might be easier to chat out of this rain.”
After holding the door for him, Kit didn’t move further than the entranceway.
Drips flew around as Felix pushed his hood down. “I saw Seren this morning,” he said.
“Nice of you to come and tell me.” Kit’s hands clenched to fists and he forced himself to keep calm.
“I just wanted to tell you there’s nothing going on between me and Seren.”
“What?” Kit blinked rapidly.
“She said you didn’t believe her that there was nothing going on between us. I don’t know if it makes any difference, but I wanted you to hear from me that it was me who kissed her. And I stopped pretty quick when it was clear she wasn’t interested.” He reached for the door handle. “That’s all.”
“Wait.” Kit shook his head. “That’s what you came to tell me?”
“Yeah.”
