Story: The WitchSlayer
“I am sure she has never used a charm against me to enchant my mind or to make me think illusions.”
Although many Dragons had fallen to this kind of trickery, his senses were too keen. He would’ve been able to smell the tendrils of witchcraft wafting around him and nagging him on the back of his scales.
He’d had no kind of inkling.
“I am certain of this.”
That made Glov pause and tilt his head.
“Unbelievable. You trust her.”
It wasn’t a question, but a statement.
“To some degree, yes. Although she is imprisoned in my lair, I trust her enough to let her roam free inside of it.”
Glov gave him an astonished face. “You, one of the most unsociable of our kind, allow a Witch to walk your tunnels when you cannot even stand our own kind for merely a day?”
“Why are you here?” Rurik bit out before he lost his temper again.
Glov eyed him warily before sighing.
“I bring big news. Witches have been seen heading this way. Quite a few of them.”
“How is this unusual? They often travel in a group with their covens. I would have heard of them when I next scout the lands.”
“Strolguil the Vast is leading them.”
Rurik frowned and brought a paw to his snout to tap his claw against it.
“Well, that is strange. He travels alone in search of power. I have not known him to be with a coven for a hundred years.”
“That is my point. They are up to something.” Glov shook his body free of the dust that had collected on him from Rurik throwing him around.
“Yes, indeed it would seem that way.” And they were heading in Rurik’s direction.
He gave a large, sharp-toothed grin. This may be the opportunity he was waiting for.
“How far?”
“Half a day’s flight southwest.” He touched his own face, at the claw marks Rurik had given him to check the deepness of the gashes.
It wouldn’t be enough to scar, but it had been a sharp warning not to anger him again otherwise he may do permanent damage. He was known for being ruthless.
“Have you told Mahesh the Flightless yet? His lair is closer, and he may not be aware Witches are at his rockstep.”
“I just came from there. He was the one who told me.”
Rurik nodded, pleased that he was already informed.
Mahesh lost his wings long ago, but he was a powerful Dragon. He didn’t fight any longer, but if he was aware of the potential threat, then he would go to the necessary lengths to keep himself hidden.
“Have you told any others? If Strolguil is using a coven and is plotting something, we may need multiple Dragons to take them down.”
Rurik was fierce, but even he knew he wouldn’t be able to fight the strongest Witch with a coven supporting him. He often had to get them alone or attack when there was only one or two of them to fight.
“No, not yet. I knew I needed to tell you first since no one else has the formidability to defeat them.”
“Once you know more, tell me, and I will formulate a plan. Let others know that I may call upon those willing to fight.” Glov nodded his head, telling him he would do as he told him. “Is there anything else?”
