Story: The WitchSlayer

“No female can keep me down by the tail.” Glov gave a quiet laugh. “Perhaps if you spent more time fucking then fighting, you may not be such a horrible prick.”

“Perhaps you are right, Glov.” The green Dragon blinked his eyes, no doubt confused as to why he was agreeing with him. “Perhaps once you are gone, I will adhere to your advice,” he answered with an evil hint to his grin.

Chapter 23

Amalia sat on the sofa in her room reading while her skin healed.

It had been about an hour since she applied the healing ointment, and already the bruises on her body started to lessen. The ones on her wrists and the bite marks, however, had not.

She heard heavy footsteps making their way up the tunnel, and she expected it to be Glov leaving. Instead, Rurik poked his scaled head inside her alcove. She closed her book to give him her attention.

“It is with deep regret that I must inform you that Glov is not leaving until tomorrow at first light.”

Her nose crinkled into an obvious cringe. It was still early in the afternoon, and she usually stayed in her room when he was here to avoid him. She didn’t want to do that for so long.

“Glov has grown accustomed to you in my lair, so you are welcome to move about.” He closed his mouth for a second, seeming to think before he added, “Once your wounds have healed.”

She lifted her arms to inspect her wrists before she looked up to him through her lashes. He does not want the other Dragon to know that we have been intimate.

Even though she was completely on board with that idea, not wanting to reveal it to the world, she wanted to knowhisreasons behind it.

“Why?”

“I do not wish to complicate things with the Elders. They are prying and already do not approve of you being allowed to roam free.”

“What will they do?”

“Although I will not permit them to tell me what I can do in my own lair, they will try to take you.”

Amalia nodded. That seemed a fair reason to keep it a secret then.

Should I be worried that his sister knows then?

“I understand. I will stay here until the marks are gone.” Her eyes fell on the tub.Perhaps I should bathe again since she told me I smell of him.The fact that his kind could smell these kinds of things was a little alarming to her. “Should I not use my magic while he is here then?”

“I do not care what he thinks of that. If he complains, then I will make sure he does not again.” She smiled in response. “He is one of very few that visit me, and he does so the most. You should both learn to be comfortable around each other.”

Once again, Amalia cringed. “I will attempt to converse, but I make no promises to be pleasant if he is not.”

He shrugged, seeming not to care.

“I will not be available for most of the evening.” His nose bunched in irritation. “I must play host like some lairmaid.”

“I will try not to disturb you.”

Rurik blinked while tilting his head. “Please do. I would prefer not to be left alone with him.”

He backed away and walked down the tunnel to leave Amalia to herself.

She continued to read, reapplying the ointment whenever it dried. She also bathed again.

When her skin healed to the point that it was barely noticeable, she couldn’t stay in the room any longer. She hadn’t eaten that day, and because of the green Dragon she’d been unable to feed herself.

After obtaining everything she needed from the food alcove, she went to the one with the stone dining table, cooked everything she grabbed, and then ate. She was hoping it would take up more time, and that she may want to sleep afterwards.

She found she wasn’t tired.

Ducking her head down the tunnel, she tip-toed her way down it while trying to be as quiet as possible. When she reached the main room where they were, she could hear them talking about one of the tapestries on the other side, facing it as they spoke.
