Story: Runner 13

Mac:
For listeners out there, just know I’m looking at those test results now and they seem legitimate.
Pete:
That’s because they are.
Mac:
Of course, of course. You must be gutted not to be out there running.
Pete:
The results came back too late for me to rejoin the race, so yeah. It’s all I’ve thought about for six months, ever since I got the invite. And if you count the years I’ve wanted to run in any Ampersand race, you could say it’s been the dream of a decade.
Mac:
And Boones has never invited you before?
Pete:
Nope.
Mac:
What changed?
Pete:
I’m not sure. Boones isn’t exactly known for explaining himself. I think, though, that this past year I changed up my training, chose races that really pushed me out of my comfort zone. I ran more in North America too – Badwater again, the Yukon Ultra – maybe that put me on his radar. I’ll get another shot, I’m sure of it.
