By the time he returned back to his chambers, he was feeling exhausted. Marian brought him dinner and ran a bath for him.
As he stepped into his bathroom, the scent of Ismena caressed his nose. To an average changeling, her scent will no longer be there, considering how hard Mirian and the other workers try to keep his tower clean, especially his space. But, he is not an average changeling. He can still smell her.
A growl made its way to his throat but he managed to cut it off. His cock hardened in his pants with each breath he took.
He'd asked Eline about her when he saw the cougar sentinel coming out of Alphose's bedroom and she'd managed to inform him that Ismena is doing great before she took off in a hurry like her feet is on fire.
After using the bathroom, he was dressing for the night when he heard a knock at his door.
"Come in." He ordered, throwing the black robe around his body.
Alpha Degar walked into his bedroom and bowed his head in greeting.
"Degar." Came the cool response, which is an acknowledgment of the Alpha's greeting.
"Alpha Cronus finally sent his report, Alpha King." He extended some documents to him as he announced.
Wolfaraine took the documents but he dropped them at his reading table. "I am exhausted, I cannot go through these documents tonight. Have you read it?"
"Of course, Alpha King."
"Then, summarize the report to me."
"As you wish." Degar waited until the Alpha King laid down on his bed before he began, "Alpha Cronus reports that our rival company; Nector and Co. Limited, is after the livestock we have been working to buy from Yacht Farmlands and the worst part of it is that Yacht Farmlands is planning to sell the livestock to Nector and Co. irrespective of the good deal we are offering them."
Wolfaraine opened his eyes, his brows knitting into a frown of displeasure.
"Alpha Cronus went ahead to report that the company will suffer a huge loss if Yacht Farmlands doesn't sell to us. Today, he had another meeting with Yacht Farmlands but they declined his offer yet again, so he is feeling stuck." Degar paused, shifting uncomfortably on his feet. He really hated having to make reports like this to the Alpha King. "Of course, he added that he will still do his best to ensure we get the livestock, and although he is feeling stuck, he would not give up."
The silence that followed was so deafening, Degar can almost smell the King's dissatisfaction.
"Good news from Josiah's side and bad news from Cronus's side." He remonstrated, anger laced his tone. "Buying that livestock is important for the project we have at hand."
"I know, Alpha King."
Wolfaraine exhaled in exasperation. Then, he closed his eyes and threw a beefy hand across his closed eyelids. "Thank you, Alpha Degar. You can go now."
"Have a good night's rest, Alpha King." The leopard Alpha bowed his head and faced the door.
"Degar?" Wolfaraine called.
Alpha Degar turned, "Yes, Alpha King?"
"Tell Cronus to fix another meeting with Yacht Farmlands and tell the airline team to get the private jet ready. I will be going to New York myself to broker the deal of buying the livestock." He announced.
CHAPTER 6. BEFORE THE HUMAN WORLD.
Ismena came out of the bathroom feeling refreshed. It's her first-day learning how to fight from Eline and she'll have to admit that it's completely different from the self-defense classes she took.
"I'll turn to a monkey at this rate." She'd blurted out to Eline when the cougar woman seemed hell-bent on teaching her how to climb tall trees.
According to Eline, it's the first defense she as a human should learn when faced with an unexpected attack from Wild Ones. Now, her arms hurt but she was excited. She'd learned.
She heard the sitting-room door open and heard Eline's almost inaudible footsteps as she walked in.
"I thought you already went to the border?" She'd told her that she has a duty post there today.
"I forgot my babies" Eline called out, followed by the stroking sound of daggers in the air.
