Story: Broken Bridges
Rolling to face me, he drew the sheet over our waists. His silver eyes shimmered like ice in the morning sunlight as he stroked my arm. “What about stunt co-ordination or special effects?”
“I couldn’t do stunt co-ordination; it’s still very physical. And special effects involves sitting behind a computer for most of the day. That’s not me.”
He draped his hand over my hip. “Why don’t you take some time off to figure it out? You could come with us on tour.”
My heart rate quickened. Travel? “And do what? Be your groupie?”
“No, my lover.” He chuckled and kissed my forehead. “You could work with the sound and lighting engineers. You loved helping in New York and at our launch.”
I jerked my chin back a fraction and furrowed my brow. “On AV?” The cogs in my head turned. Warmth stirred in my belly. Could I? No. Operating mixers and lights was just a hobby.
Something I’d learned.
Something I loved.
As I dragged my thumb over the soft line of whiskers above his mouth, a small smile tugged at the corner of my lips. “I do like pressing your buttons. I’ve loved helping you guys out. The crowd at the launch was awesome, the tech was fun to play with, and the rush was wicked, but to do that on tour or as a career? I don’t know. I love the band, but I’m not sure it’s me.” My pulse had quickened though.
He caught my hand and held it beneath his chin. “A fire just ignited in your eyes as you talked about it. You’re smiling and your energy has totally changed. Life is too short and unpredictable. Do something you love. If running tech gives you a rush, follow it.”
"The pay cut would kill me, but you’re right.” Something had flickered to life in the pit of my belly and had warmed my blood. “You might be onto something. Maybe I could find something similar in the film industry. That would be fun.” I stole a quick kiss from his lips. “Let me look into it. I’ll do some research into jobs and courses.” Sound engineering, event management, show production...I had options to explore and was excited to investigate.
Confusion crinkled his brow. “Why wouldn’t you work with us? Gena’s going on maternity leave soon. You could be part of our team. And I wouldn’t mind having you around every day...and in my bed at night.” He pushed me down on the mattress and hovered over me.
“You’d put up with me flashing lights in your eyes, controlling your sound with a flick of my fingertips, and watching your every move?”
“Not the lights, but the rest kinda turns me on.” He slid his leg over mine and nudged his growing erection against my thigh.
“Hmm. I like that.” I linked my hands behind his neck. “But no. I don’t want to be dragged back into that world of partying and gossip, and we need to be logical and sensible. Even if I moved into that field, I’d want to keep us and work separate. If we didn’t work out, I’d hate it to cause problems for you and the guys.” But the hole in my chest ached. In truth, hanging out socially with the band here at home was awesome, but being with them every day would remind me too much of Phil. Of my loss, my heartbreak, my old self. I wasn’t that person anymore.
I was on the path to finding the new me. Lewis had just helped uncover a potential direction, something that had always been at my fingertips but had never been a consideration due to my love of stunts. But now the way was clear.
“We won’t cause problems.” Lewis dipped his head and flicked his tongue over my nipple. I flinched and giggled. He grinned like he’d just tasted ice cream. “The guys and I will be fine. I don’t plan on going anywhere.”
I smoothed my hand over his soft hair. “And I want to ensure you don’t.” There were no guarantees, but I’d do everything to ensure he stayed with the band. Even if that meant maintaining separate lives.
He rolled on top of me and nestled between my legs. Mischief ignited in his eyes. “You will find something new, I’m sure of it. There’s nothing wrong with starting over. I’ve done it more than once. So to celebrate new directions, we need to do something fun, and something that won’t hurt your leg. I have something in mind.”
“Like what?” I wriggled beneath him, edging him toward my opening.
“Do you trust me?” He brushed his soft lips across mine and smiled.
“Not totally.”
“Fair enough.” He chuckled. Sliding his hand around my waist, he rocked his hips against me. A gravelly groan rumbled deep in my throat. “Mmm. After I’ve made you come, we’re going on a date.”
I ran my hands over his shoulders. “Butwhat if we’re photographed together?”
He kissed the tip of my nose. “Cole gave us explicit instructions to get out of the house. So that’s exactly what we’re going to do. We just can’t kiss and fool around in public.”
“If that’s the case, I better get my fix now so I can last the day.” I hooked my legs around his waist and drew his body flush against mine.
“We won’t be gone that long. A few hours, tops.”
“Don’t care. Just fuck me. Please?”
“I can do that.” He eased into me, filling me, claiming me, owning me. Shivers darted across my skin as he thrust and drove in deep. He teased his lips across my mouth, searing me with his hot breath. “I honestly never thought this would feel so good. So different.”
I wrapped my arms around his shoulders and pulsed my hips in time with his movements. “Yeah, but you didn’t tell me where we are going?”
