Story: Broken Bridges
She licked her lips like they were the best thing to taste on the planet. Oh fuck, that was sexy. That...didn’t ease my worry. Grabbing the bottle of bourbon, she twisted off the lid, then poured more shots. “What do you look for in a guy?”
I knocked down the bourbon and scanned the crowd on the dance floor and the guys laughing in the corner of the VIP section. She leaned against my arm, so we didn’t have to yell over the music. The moment our bare skin touched, heat meandered through my veins.
I trailed my gaze across her fine fingers, along her delicate wrist, over her elbow and toned biceps, then up to her bare shoulder. I met her eyes. Her stunning green irises shimmered like emeralds in the club lights. “Um...toned arms, not too buffed, always attract me. Nice body. A smile that makes you want to drop to your knees the moment they look at you.”
Tia tilted her head to the side. Her silver hair fell forward, brushing the edge of her cheek. She narrowed her eyes into sexy slits, pouted and pursed her lips, then smiled a devilish smile.
I swallowed hard, willed the blood away from my dick, then chuckled. “Yeah...a smile like that.”
Damn actress. But I couldn’t look away. Neither did Tia. Shit. She shouldn’t look at me like that. Likeshe wanted me. It did strange things to my heartbeat every single time. Breaking my trance, I let out a long, slow breath and lifted my chin. “Does anyone here catch your eye?”
“Yes.” She tapped my arm. “But he’s not available.”
I winced. Did she mean me? Fuck. I downed another shot, licked my lips, and let out an awkward laugh. More wires in my head frayed. Too much alcohol buzzed through my body. I’d better not drink anymore. “You up for dancing or is your leg too sore?”
“I’ll be able to shuffle and sway for a bit.” She knocked back another shot like it was water. She slid to her feet, easing in close to me. “But I’ll need some help.”
“With what?” I edged off my stool and caught her arm.
She erased the gap between us, leaving barely any room for air. Our lips hovered three inches apart. My stomach flipped, and my pulse quickened. Her jasmine perfume held me captive. She caught her bottom lip between her teeth as she slid her hand down my chest, over my stomach, then dipped it into the front pocket of my jeans. I flinched but didn’t pull away. God. Her fingers were half an inch away from my dick. It twitched, liking the attention.
Crap.
With a sexy smile, she withdrew her hand and held her curled fingers against her chest. “This will help. We can’t let these pills go to waste.”
I brushed her hair off her face. “What would your brother say if I got you high?”
“He’d want an E too. You’ve read about my brother’s band, right?”
“Yes. That’s why we get on so well.” Most days, anyway.
She popped the pill into her mouth and washed it down with a mouthful of bourbon, straight from the bottle. “Let’s get fucked up and dance.”
Smiling, I shook my head. “You’re not what I expected.”
“Trust me. Neither are you.” She licked her index finger, placed the second pill on it, and hovered it half an inch from my lips. “Are you game?”
According to many, mainly most of my family, I was going to hell for my sins anyway. I may as well add this to the list. “Always.”
With my gaze locked onto Tia’s, I sucked her finger into my mouth and licked the pill off the tip. Then, I drew her whole finger into my mouth and swirled and flicked my tongue around it. Her breath hitched. A shockwave jolted my dick. My heart beat way too fast. Damn. What brought that move on? Fuck!
I should leave. Walk away. But something about her lured me deeper. And deeper. And deeper.
Drugs. Alcohol. Her. This was a dangerous combination. What had I gotten myself into?
I poured another round of shots. So much for not drinking. “Let’s dance.”
We drank the bourbon and slammed the glasses onto the table.
She held out her hand. “Show me the way.”
I led her onto the dance floor, heading for the center. We squeezed past a group of guys that reeked of pot, several couples making out, and girls who were so drunk they only managed to stay upright thanks to the mass of people around them. Morgan stood at his turntable on stage with headphones on, spinning out the tunes. Lights flashed around us. Bodies gyrated, jumped up and down, and spun around to the music.
I drew Tia to a halt. “This okay?” It was so packed, we only had about a square foot of space each to move.
“We’ll see how it goes.”
Facing each other, we stepped to the beat, swaying and dancing on the spot. But within two songs, her eyes had narrowed, and they shimmered in the flashing lights. She half smiled. Yep. The drugs had kicked in. Mine had too. Every part of my body hummed and buzzed. Laughing, I let the loud disco thrum take over me. I jumped around Tia. We bumped hips, shuffled from side to side, and hollered out the songs. She’d finally let loose. I loved it. I loved that despite her struggles and injuries, she’d come out tonight. She was smiling and hopefully having fun.
