Story: As It Was

“I’ll find them later.”
“You want me to walk to the house naked?”
“Perks of living in the middle of nowhere,” he said before pulling me out of the barn and into the house.
It hit me as we both showered and made plans for dinner howrightall of this felt. What we’d done might have been an impulse decision, but I didn’t regret it.
I didn’t regret anything in Strawberry Springs.
“When is the next episode ofRenovating with Love?” Cain asked when we were setting the table for dinner.
“I think in a few days,” I said. “Which reminds me ... I need to catch up with Wren. I haven’t heard from her in a bit.”
“I wanna meet Wren and make a new friend!” Eric said from his place on the couch. He’d been all about meeting new people ever since he realized things were different between Cain and the town.
“Hopefully you will soon,” I told him. “I just need her to be here for a bit.”
I pulled out my phone and went to my text chain with Wren.

SherriffMike Finch: I’m gonna turn my damn tags off.
Hu Gh: Type it into Goggle
Kerry Winsor: That’s not how it works!

Hu Gh: Google. Goggle. What’s the difference?
Judge Marlon madehis decision quickly.
I was made the sole caregiver of Eric, and Waldren was given time in jail for what he’d done. He’d paid to get out on bail, which I hated, but I knew he had no interest in finding Eric again. Apparently, according to Mike, he’d muttered something about hating being a parent anyway.
Now he never would be. Not tomykid anyway.
