Page 88 of Worth the Risk
Of course he liked the work. That was part of being a good partner, being a good dominant. Gregory had no problems putting in the effort, putting in the time. Landon wasn’t a project though; it wasn’t anything like that. He was more like an investment.
“I love him.”
“Again?” Aaron took a long pull from his beer.
“Still,” Gregory admitted.
“The two of you are electric. There’s no denying that.”
He angled a sideways glance at Aaron.
“So what are you gonna do?” Aaron asked, slapping his hands against his thighs and leaning forward in his chair.
“What?” Gregory blinked, confused.
“About Landon?”
“What do you mean?”
Aaron scoffed. “Well, you’re not just gonna let him take off to New Yorkagain, are you?”
Gregory hadn’t thought of another option. He’d honestly just planned on letting Landon go to New York and then deal with the fallout over the collar and ring when he got back.
“I hadn’t…”
“Gregory, dude.” Aaron cut him off. “You’re his Dom, yeah?”
“Yeah,” Gregory agreed, his brain shouting the reminder that Landon hadn’t used a safe word yet.
“You’re his boyfriend?”
“Yeah.”
“And you’re really gonna let him go to New York, upset and alone, to deal with one of his best friends on his potential deathbed without you?” Aaron rolled his eyes at Gregory. “Verity would have been on the plane with Landon, but they know someone needs to stay and run things here so they’re not going.”
Gregory raised an eyebrow in response to Aaron’s acknowledgement of the goings on with Verity, but Aaron shook his head.
“Don’t try and change the topic.”
“You think I should go to New York,” Gregory stated.
Aaron tilted his head to the side in question and took another drink of his beer.
“I’d go,” Aaron mused.
Gregory sighed, shoving his hand into his pocket and fondling the thin gold band that, although belonging in another life, had made its appearance today in the present.
“He doesn’t want me there,” Gregory said softly. “If there was a time to follow someone across the country, it’s come and gone. He’ll be back.”
“You’re not gonna go?” Aaron looked legitimately shocked.
“I’m not who he needs out there.”
Aaron scoffed, “You’re trying to convince me he doesn’t need his Dom? His boyfriend?”
Gregory shook his head.
“Not right now. We obviously have shit to sort out and over his dying friend isn’t the time.” Gregory dropped his head onto the chair and stared up at the sky. “I am his Dom, though; you’re right, and I do know what he needs.”
