I've heard that there are no regrets in life, only lessons, but if I live, I'll regret walking outside with Tony for the rest of my life. What if I never see my boys again?
-Presley
My stomach lurches with every pothole that "Tony" or whatever his real name is hits with his car. This nausea is all consuming, and I can’t take much more.
He placed a cloth soaked in something over my mouth to drug me, and it has also given me a nasty headache.
Drugging me is the only way he could get me in this backseat though. I gave him hell, and will continue to do so.
Thankfully, he doesn't know that I'm awake yet. I’ve tried to use that to my advantage, but if I move my head even an inch to look out of the window he might notice. It’s useless, and I’m tired of not having any answers .
"Who are you?" My throat is dry and feels like it’s been sandpapered to hell and back.
“My name doesn’t matter, because we are all the same. You will soon learn the hidden truths that you’ve been blinded to all these years.”
That doesn’t sound suspicious at all. “Does the King have many followers?”
He nods. “We are one. We are many. He’s been recruiting us for years. We are good, right? You won’t tell the King I slapped you?” His voice asks with a quiver.
Whoever this King guy is must be lethal. I’ll choose to stay on Tony’s good side for now. “I won’t, but only if you tell me what I’m walking into.”
“What do you mean?” He asks with furrowed brows.
“How about you start with why you kidnapped me?”
“The King ordered it, so it must be so. He’s watched you from afar, and now he plans to officially intertwine your fates.”
This guy is bat shit crazy. What in the hell is he talking about? “How does he plan on doing that?”
The smile he gives me in the rear view mirror is not contagious, it’s creepy as hell. “He’s going to make you his queen tonight. You’ve been chosen for more, and it cannot be undone.”
Bile rises up my throat, and burns everything in its assault. I swallow it down quickly, because I can’t show him any weakness.
I can’t marry the King, I won’t. Thankfully, I’m smart enough not to say that out loud. “Who is your King?”
“He is the best of us, but I can’t reveal his true name to you. He wants you to be surprised, and I won’t go against his direct order.”
“I know him, don’t I?”
He smiles. “Yes, you know him, but he still has so much to teach you. ”
Closing my eyes, I lay my head down and finally allow my tears to fall. I have to believe they will find me, but at what personal cost to them?
I’d die a million deaths if it kept my guys from getting hurt. My heart can’t live in a world without them. So, they have to be my first priority. Whatever that means.
I can’t allow anything to cause them physical pain. Even if that means marrying TKOH. I will sacrifice my happiness for their wellbeing.
The stars shine brightly in and out of the storm clouds as we drive into the abandoned amusement park. Thunder sounds, and lightning strikes in the distance bringing with it a promise of rain.
Time waits for no one, but I wish it did. Stopping in front of the carousel, Tony opens my door. He offers me his hand, and I take it.
Goosebumps tingle up my spine as the carnival music blasts through the speakers. I’ve never hated the sound more than I do right now. It’s just another nail in the coffin that is this situation.
As the carousel turns a lone figure dressed all in black jumps down onto the pavement. He’s been waiting for me. My heart stops when he steps into the moonlight, and I see his ruggedly handsome face. It’s one that I know fairly well.
I know him.
I know the King of Hearts.
I never expected it to be him, and he’s been right under our noses this entire time.
