Did You Put Something In My drink?
I've never seen Kai so angry, it was like he was an entirely different person.
-Presley
It's been two days since the courtyard deaths. My stepbrothers have been busy working with police for answers, and I haven’t had much of a chance to speak with them in person.
They’re on edge, and I have promised them that I won’t go anywhere by myself until after the powers that be catch the killer. I have to check in every couple of hours, and send proof of life pictures.
I've complied to every demand so far except giving them my class schedule. I've ignored every request for it, and I will continue to do so. Classes start on Monday, and while I know I need to be more careful, I won’t give up my freedom.
This is the first time I've disobeyed a direct order from daddy dearest. Kai and I fight all the time, but I don't with Gunner. I always do what he says and he treats me like a princess.
He's not happy with my defiance, neither of them are, but I'm so tired of bending over backwards to accommodate what they want for my life. That stops now. It's time that I live.
My best friend Aurora Jane curls the last piece of my hair. "Girl, you look hot."
"Kai can't see me there." I reiterate for the hundredth time.
She laughs. "This house is massive. Stop worrying about Kai, he's going to be hanging out with his friends, he won't even notice you're there."
I nod. "You're right, I'm freaking out for no reason.”
Walking to the mirror, I stand next to her. "We do look hot don't we?"
"Yes bestie, we do! Now let's go get you laid!" She shouts.
"Yesss!" Taking the bottle of wine from her, I turn it up!
My phone buzzes twice, and I'm almost scared to look at the messages. I swear it's like my stepbrothers have a tracker on me!
Which would be insane so I really shouldn’t think that.
Looking at my phone, I laugh at what their contact names are. I love that I did that.
Kai the Guard Dog: What're you doing tonight?
Daddy Dearest: Also, I still don't see a schedule sitting on my desk.
Me: What are you doing tonight? And has Hell frozen over yet?
Daddy Dearest: Don’t test me!
Kai the Guard Dog: What he said!
Me: Calm down. I’m staying in my room. I have pizza, and Netflix. I promise to provide said pictures, BUT I’m not giving you my schedule. AND yes, I know you can just look it up as a faculty member. Goodnight!
AJ takes my phone and places it on my vanity. "No more talking to the Alpha-Holes. Have you taken enough selfies to accommodate how long we’ll be gone tonight?”
I nod, and place my phone back into my little purse. It will not be a good night for me if I forget to send those pictures. "Let's go, Sis."
My body is on pins and needles, because the party is at Kai's frat house. I've only been to one party there, but I left shortly after I saw him making out with a girl who I've come to despise.
Amber Deluca is one of the most popular girls here at school.
PHU is separated into three academies, and unfortunately we are both in the Enchanted Rose one.
I've had several classes with her already and each time I've seen her sitting in the classroom on the first day I've wanted to gouge her eyes out.
The bottle of wine I've drunk beforehand isn’t helping my attitude. I'm filled with liquid courage and I'm not afraid to show it. In fact, I hope I do see Amber and Kai at this party.
She's a dick. I would say a cunt, but that would be disrespectful to vaginas everywhere! And Kai, well, he's not being a very good guard dog right about now.
He hooked up with Amber a few times my freshman year. Her jealousy over our close relationship made her insecure, and she bragged about it in a class we were in together.
Which was not in her best interest, because I’m a snitch and confronted him, and he hasn't slept with her since. Check mate, bitch .
She hasn't forgiven me for it, but I was taught you don't kiss and tell. She should have known he'd choose me over her anyway. If you want to play the game, then you better know all the rules.
My heart beats to the bass coming out of the big speakers on the lawn. I laugh as AJ pulls me over for a game of beer pong. "No, we suck at this game."
She chuckles. "That's the point. We're getting plastered, then in the morning we're going to do the walk of shame like a couple of champs."
"But we're already plastered." I giggle.
Our opponents smile at us from across the table. Both are hot, but I'm feeling the red head. "Dibs on the ginger," I whisper yell to AJ.
She nods. "Alright boys, y'all ready to play?"
The red head hands me the ball. "Ladies first, Beautiful."
"You're in for a real treat tonight."
"Is that right?" He shouts over the music.
Blowing him a kiss, I send the ball sailing through the trees, and in to the unknown. I cover my eyes and laugh. I don't think I'm very good at this.
AJ has literal tears going down her face. "We suck, bro."
I nod. "I'll be right back."
The red head walks over with a red solo cup in his hand. "You have to pay the penance first, drink up, baby."
His good mood is contagious. I'm not so far gone that I'm not weary of taking a drink from a stranger, but the cup was in full view of everyone around the table. He wouldn't have had time to put anything in my drink.
"I hate beer," I whine before drinking half of it.
He grunts. "Hi. I'm Drew, and rules are rules. Next time we'll do some wine coolers. Sound good? "
I smile. "Are you trying to get me drunk so that you can have your wicked way with me?
He smirks. "Maybe. What's your name?"
"Presley Kate," I whisper.
A look of concern flashes across his face seconds before he takes the beer out of my hands, and throws it on the ground. In his carelessness he pours most of it down the front of my top. I'm not wearing a bra so my tits are on full display in this fitted white shirt.
"I'm so sorry. Let me get you a new shirt, please." AJ's already walked off with the brunette, so I agree.
I'm not feeling the red head anymore, even in my drunken haze the pieces are coming together. "Why did you do it?"
Leading me into the frat house, he has the decency to look sheepish. "There was a bug in there. Are you going to tell Kai?"
Planting my hands on my hips, I finally lay all my cards on the table. "I think you put something in my drink?"
"I didn't, I would never." He throws up his hands in surrender.
A guy from my English class passes by, and I grab his arm. "Theo, can you get me a new shirt?"
"I'll get you whatever you want lil’ mama." He replies with a wolfish grin on his face.
"Go—od, but stop looking at my tits. M-yyy face is up h—ere." It's getting more impossible to keep my eyes open now.
"K-ai...KA—I!" My vision blurs, but I swear I see him. My Kai. He won’t let anyone hurt me.
His deep voice asks me, “Who hurt you?” Is the last thing I hear before totally blacking out.
