She’d fallen utterly still, her attention having lifted to the ceiling.Something’s coming, she whispered, her shiver visible even from across the room.Something powerful.
Issac cast his power out across the island, searching everyone’s visions for any clue of what she might be sensing.
Lucian was speaking with Jayson and Alik in his house. Mateo stood with them. The visual gave him a momentary pause as he wondered what they were discussing.
But Aya’s unease trickled through his mind, shoving him back on track as he searched for Elizabeth’s mind.Dreaming, he confirmed before moving on to his sister and Thomas.
Which was a huge mistake that had him gasping for air because he never wanted to seethatever again. He mentally growled, shaking his head violently to rid himself of that particular image of his sister on the bed.
Fuck,he thought, attempting to build a mental wall between him and Thomas.
But a gasp from his Aya yanked him right back to the room with her and to the couple that had just appeared in the center of the room.
“Skye’s just had a vision,” Sethios said quickly. “She keeps saying, ‘They know,’ on repeat, but she won’t tell us more. So we don’t know if she means the Fates, the council, or the warrior Seraphim. Can you tap into her vision?”
The question was for Issac. However, he was already doing just that before Sethios ceased speaking.
And the visual that awaited him stole the air from his lungs.
Death. Destruction. Blood and violence.
Littering the grounds of Hydria.
Lifeless eyes.
A flurry of wings and swords and ethereal energy.
A screaming child.
A bright light at the center of it all.
Aya’s furious expression.
Aya’s vacant expression.
Aya’s agonized scream.
Aya’s blank stare.
He frowned. “She’s seeing several different fates at once,” he said, translating the image out loud. “Aya is at the center of it all. Here in Hydria. And she’s surrounded by death.”
“Of course I am,” she muttered. “Because I’m destined to kill us all.”
“We choose our destinies,” her mother said as she appeared in a flurry of light blue feathers before turning corporeal. “Gabriel and Vera are trying to finish the outer wards now, as it’s clear we don’t have much time.”
“The warriors are definitely coming,” Issac agreed, still watching the images flash through Skye’s mind. “I think she’s saying the council knows, but it could also be a shared projection from the Fates. It’s hard to say for sure, as it’s all quite chaotic.” And giving him a bloody headache, too.
He tried to discern any kind of order to the visions, but they appeared to be coming to her in a random sequence, depicting events that might happen in a few minutes or a few centuries.
Issac pulled out of her head, unable to bear another minute.
Then he blinked at finding Lucian in the doorway.
Time had apparently slipped by him while he’d been dancing through the intricacies of Skye’s mind.
“It’s time for B to come home,” Lucian declared. “We need him. He’s the key to Hydraian morale.”
Issac agreed with a nod.
