The shock was quickly fading. His furious eyes locked on mine.

“No, she doesn’t.”

“And ya consummated the contract…fuck! Ya son of a bitch,” he snarled and charged.

I dodged his fist as he swung for my head and pushed him back. I didn’t want to fight, but I would if he pushed it. He suddenly lunged, tackling me to the ground, and it was on. Our fists landed blow after blow as we rolled around on the scratchy carpet.

“Yer a feckin’ dick,” Myles growled, catching me across the jaw. “Ya knew I loved her, and wanted to marry her.”

With a quick twist, I managed to lock his arm and roll us over, so I was on top once more.

“Oh yeah? And then what?” I snarled, getting him with a hard right hook.

“What the fuck does that mean?” Myles bucked me off and caught me with a kidney shot before jumping up. Theo and Blake grabbed him before he could attack again. “Huh! Tell me what the fuck does that mean?”

“You really want to know,” I yelled as I pushed myself up.

The anger and worry that I’d kept locked up had finally broken loose.

“I was trying to be nice and not fucking say it, but since you’re too thick to put it together yourself, here it is.

” I poked him in the chest, my eyes locking with his. “You were never going to marry her.”

“What the fuck?”

“Myles! Grow the fuck up. This is not some rom-com where you get to dance your fucking way to the altar. Ren is a princess. Not just any princess, a Genovese princess. Her father is a massive player with influence all over the world. Her mother may be dead, but the Mikhailovs haven’t abandoned Ren.

Now tell me, what the fuck do you have to offer either of them? Huh? What? Tell me.”

He remained quiet, his eyes clearly showing how wounded he was…how my words hurt. Liam put his hand on my shoulder, but this was a long time coming, and I was on a roll.

“Nothing…you got nothing to say?”

“I love her,” Myles growled.

I clapped my hands.

“Congratu-fucking-lations. We all do. But you loving her means jack shit in the grand scheme of things. Owen is a fucking psycho with no loyalties anywhere. He just tried to kill Ren and Mr. Genovese. Lawrence already seized his assets. The businesses and money from your father’s bank account that you thought you were getting?

Think again. I didn’t want to tell you this with all the shit going on, but Owen signed everything over to Devin.

Devin named my father as his beneficiary to kiss his ass.

They cut you out years ago. Lawrence found a loophole to bypass your father the moment we handed him that severed dick.

Everything is his. I don’t have a clue how he did it, but I’ve seen the paperwork.

The only reason you have anything right now is because of me. Do you get that?”

Myles stayed quiet, but his eyes said it all. I’d ripped open the scab he’d been avoiding since the moment we learned Owen had turned and possibly killed a Curator. I tapped the middle of his forehead. He snarled and jerked his head away.

“Love means nothing without money and power in our world, you know that. I have the money. I have the power. I have the connections. I have the deals. I’ve sacrificed everything, including losing all of you, to make sure that we win this war and you can all be free to make your own choices.”

Sucking in a deep breath, I stepped away from Myles. I’d never wanted to hurt him, even though I knew when I signed the contract that it would. It was the only way, and I stood by that decision.

“The opportunity was there, and I kept Ren safe by making a deal that none of you could. You want to come at me, Myles…fine…come at me, but it’s the truth and you know it. She is my wife, and it’s staying that way. Princess is mine, and you better fucking get used to it.”

“Yer an asshole,” Myles said, yanking his arms away from Blake and Theo before storming out, the door slamming behind him.

The room became deathly quiet as the weight of my brother’s eyes landed on me. All I saw was their anger, judgment, and ridicule.

“What,” I finally said, holding my arms out.

“You didn’t need to be that harsh with Myles. You had to know he would be enraged. He’s been loyal and didn’t deserve to be humiliated in front of all of us,” Theo said.

I shook my head. “Fuck that. He came at me. Myles needed to get his head out of his ass.”

“Maybe…maybe not.” Liam looked me up and down, the disgust in his eyes shining back at me. “And let’s make sure that we clear something up right now. We don’t give a fuck if you’re married to Ren. We’re not giving her up. So, you’d better get used to that…boss,” Liam said.

The barbed jab landed as it was meant to, hard and direct. They opened the door and walked out, leaving me alone.

“Fuck,” I yelled.

Swiping a hardcover book off the table, I threw it across the room, leaving a massive dent in the drywall. My chest heaved as the rage ran its course through my system, igniting a fire in my gut. But it was more than anger…the first inkling of guilt nipped at my conscience.

“Fuck.”
